We started having a problem when publishing pages - were getting an error when publishing. When investigating found that all the files for the Search Index assigned to these pages had been deleted.

The Search Index folder was still there, but all files were removed.

Any explanation as to how this could have happened would help a lot.

    Thanks

    Hi mcpdinkansas,

There is only one way to remove the index files - when you delete the index or manually remove the files. We do not have an UI section except the above mentioned from where you can remove the index files.

You can try re creating the index from Sitefinity >> Administration >> Services >>  Search.

    Kind regards,

    Hi jjwu15,

Please check whether you have some custom code that removes the index files or some third party tool. Check the App_Data/sitefinity.log file for some related errors.

    Hi Ivan,

We don't have any custom code or third party tools. All of a sudden the index files were gone. This is a problem and it didn't just happen to us obviously. Please look into this.

    Thanks,
    James

    Hi jjwu15,

I am not able to replicate the issue. Can you replicate it on a new installation?  Since we are not able to reproduce the issue you may open a support request and provide us with the project and its database.

This error has happened again with our Sitefinity Site. Have there been any replications of this issue and why it is happening??

We would like to figure this out asap.

    Hello Mcpdinkansas,

No we were not able the issue. Do you use NLB with some replication tool that might delete the files? I don't see other reason for this that what we discussed so far.

We do have a process that copies over the search index files from Sitefinity Site A to Sitefinity Site B. We do delete/update the search index files on Site B from Site A, but we do not update/modify the search index files on Site A where this error is occurring. I should also note this process runs at 7PM daily and this error occurred individually around 3PM after successfully updating/deleting several pages, which leads me to believe the process we have in place is not the cause of this.

The client confirmed that the actions taken directly before this error occurred was a mass deletion of pages if that helps at all.
