We have mapped our blog to an external template using the Telerik.Sitefinity.Configuration.ControlsConfig.xml and copied the resource files and external template for ContentViewSingleItem.ascx into the ControlTemplates folder. This appears to be working.

Before we applied the template, the BlogPost displayed the blog article and all the comments in a list with the form at the bottom to add a new comment. Now it just displays a link to Full Story and a link to Comments, and when we change the settings in the Advanced tab in the BlogPost Edit, for example checking the option to NOT display the social network icons, the changes have no effect.

How can I make it go back to displaying the way it did before, but keep the external template so that I can have control over it? I DON'T want the "Full Story" link. I just want it to display the entire story and all the comments plus the form like it did before.

    This website has Sitefinity 3.7SP3

    Thanks,
    Brenda

    Hi Design,

Use the mode templates - ListPageMaster and ListPageDetails from

    [ExternalTemplates]\Sitefinity\Admin\ControlTemplates\Blogs\Modes

    Ivan,

Our Sitefinity\Admin\ControlTemplates\Blogs folder does not have a \modes folder in it. Plus, the external templates we downloaded also doesn't have a \modes folder in it. Where can I get the rest of those files?

We were only able to download the the "community" templates with our trial download account, but the website is the standard edition. Does this matter?

    Thanks,
    Brenda

    Hi Design,

I checked your account history and you have two downloads for Sitefinity_3_7_standard_trial_NET40_ExternalTemplates.zip which are not community templates. Also community edition has been discontinued.
The external templates you have downloaded - Sitefinity_3_7_standard_trial_NET40_ExternalTemplates.zip
contains [ExternalTemplates]\Sitefinity\Admin\ControlTemplates\Blogs\Modes folder where you can find the above mentioned templates.

Thank you Ivan. I found the mode templates - ListPageMaster and ListPageDetails.

I put them in the Sitefinity\Admin\ControlTemplates\Blogs\Modes folder.

The blog page now displays again like it did before I mapped the external templates.

HOWEVER, now the CAPTCHA which we had enabled and which was working, is now not working again. Captcha is enabled in the ContentViewSingleItem.aspx and in ListPageDetail.aspx.

What do we need to do to get CAPTCHA back on?

    Thanks,
    Brenda

    Ivan,

We already used your first link to setup the CAPTCHA in the first place, which is how we ended up needing to map the external templates to make the CAPTCHA work, which in turn is what led me here because mapping the templates made the layout stop working. Each thing I did, in turn, fixed one thing and broke something else. Mapping the templates broke the layout but fixed the CAPTCHA, and adding the mode files fixed the layout but rebroke the CAPTCHA.

We are not programmers....we only want to be able to display a blog with comments and a form with CAPTCHA. I have already followed all the instructions and now everything is working (external templates, layout) except for the CAPTCHA (already enabled in external template, but not showing up in page...why??? it was showing up before I added the mode files). I don't thing I should have to become a programmer to make this work.

Is there no other solution you have that doesn't have me exposing properties and writing programming code?

    Thanks,
    Brenda

    Hi,

I am not able to replicate any issues using BlogPosts control with its external template. I attached a sample video. Most probably you are missing some step here.

Hi Ivan, I watched the video you attached. This video shows exactly what we had when we got to step 2 below. At this step, our page worked exactly as shown in your video. We don't want our users to have to click a link to see the full story, therefore we followed step 3 below as you instructed. We are still stuck at the problem that evolved in step 3.

Step 1) setup a single blog post with comments and form to add comments. PROBLEM: No captcha on the form.

Step 2) Followed instructions to install captcha by mapping the external template for the single blog post. PROBLEM: Now captcha works, BUT, now there is only a link to FULL STORY (exactly like your video). User has to click through to see the single blog post. Advanced tab settings have no effect.

Step 3) Per your instructions, we added the two MODE files. Now there is no longer a link to FULL STORY. Advanced tab settings now work again. It is back to displaying the entire blog post, which is the display mode we want. PROBLEM: captcha has disappeared from the page. There is NO captcha available, defeating all of the above steps. Our page now looks again just like it did in Step 1.

What I am trying to say is that after I followed all of the steps to enable/display/use captcha on the single blog post with comments form, I am back to where I started with step 1 with NO captcha, even though the page is now using mapped external templates which have the properties set to enable captcha.

Please tell us what we have to do to get this working?

    Thanks,
    Brenda

    Hi Design,

Unfortunately I am not able to replicate the issue and I do not know what could cause the issue for it. You can check the page source to see whether RadCaptcha control is on a page and if it is there, then the problem is somewhere with in the way that the image is generated.
