    Hello,

Please can I ask, is there a way to implement document versioning in teh Sitefinity Libraries.

    Example:
    1 - I am uploading a document in a library.
2 - Then I edit the same document outside Sitefinity.
3 - Then I re-aupload it again (the edited version) on top of the original one.

Is there a way to set Sitefinity so that it remembers the versions of the document
as I keep re-uploading the same document. And aslo a way for me to see different versions,
and maybe roll back to a given version?

    Many thanks,

    Andrei

    Hi Andrei,

Unfortunately Images and Documents does not support versioning ( history). You have to create a custom data provider and module that will have these capabilities.

The module will support versioning in Sitefinity 4 edition.

    Hello Ivan,

Custom Data Provider: Are you able to elaborate. Can I build my own module?

Also, when is version 4 expected?

    Many thanks,

    Hello Andrei,

You have to create a not GenericContent based module with its own data classes to persist the data and implement versioning. You have to create a  custom database tables where you keep records for each version that has been uploaded - for each version you have to persist some of the base fields - Title, description and binary data.

Sitefinity 4.0 will be released in the end of 2010.

    Sincerely yours,

I was just looking at this old thread...
Does Sitefinity 4.x support versioning on documents in the libraries? If not, is it on the product road map?

    thanks in advance.

    Hello Scott ,

The feature is not implemented in Sitefinity 4.0. We will consider it for feature implementations. Recently we implemented file storage provider in 4.2 edition and it would  be easier to have versioning if it works with the file system storage provider instead of adding data to the database.

    Kind regards,
