    This is really strange. Out of the blue I'm getting several "Unknown server tag" messages in \Sitefinity\Admin\Admin.master and Admin\CmsAdmin\ChangeRecepients.aspx.

    I have not touched either of these files, nor have I applied any patches.

    ChangeRecepeints is missing:
    • telerik:RadTabStrip
    • telerik:RadTab
    • telerik:RadMultiPage
    • telerik:RadPageView
    Admin.master is missing telerik:RadTabStrip.

    With Admin.master not compiling, the administration side of Sitefinity is no longer accessible.

    Also, I do not see any of these controls in the General section of the Toolbox, though the rest of the RadControls are there.

    Aren't these controls part of this assembly:
    <%@ Register Assembly="Telerik.Web.UI" Namespace="Telerik.Web.UI" TagPrefix="telerik" %>

    Any other ideas on getting this working again? My development is essentially at a standstill.

    Thanks,
    Jeff

    Hello Jeff,

    Could you check whether you have the following lines in your Admin.master file.

    <div class="tabstripWrapper"
                        <telerik:RadTabStrip  EnableEmbeddedSkins="false" Skin="Sitefinity" id="MainMenu" runat="server" meta:resourcekey="RadTabStrip1Resource1" DataFieldID="ID" DataFieldParentID="ParentID" DataNavigateUrlField="NavigateUrl" DataSourceID="MainMenuDataSource1" DataTextField="Text" DataValueField="Value" OnDataBound="MainMenu_DataBound" CausesValidation="false"></telerik:RadTabStrip>
                        <sf2:MainMenuDataSource id="MainMenuDataSource1" runat="server"></sf2:MainMenuDataSource>
                    </div>

    The controls are part of Telerik.Web.UI and they are registered with TagPrefix ="telerik" in the both files you specify.

    Check whether you have registered Telerik.Web.UI assembly in controls section of your web.config file.

    <controls>
        ...
    <add tagPrefix="telerik" namespace="Telerik.Web.UI" assembly="Telerik.Web.UI"/>
       ...
    </controls>

    By default RadTabStrip control should be located under RadControls section of your toolbox.

    Hi Ivan,

    The <telerik:RadTabStrip ...> element is present in Admin.master. In fact, it's the very same line that is giving me the error when I build the web site.

    I also confirmed the line in web.config under <controls> is present.

    I'm wondering if RadTab and PageMultiView are in an separate assembly that Telerik.Web.UI loads. If so, perhaps this additional assembly isn't being loaded.

    It would certainly explain why I'm not seeing the controls at design-time in the Toolbox.

    BTW, all of my RadControls are in the General section of the Toolbox (minus, of course, the RadTabStrip and the other controls I'm getting the errors on). I do not have RadControls section at all. Maybe that's another clue.

    Is there a way to re-register these controls?

    Jeff

    Hi Jeff,

    Could you tell me whether the problem persists after you have tested with the attached files I am sending you? All controls you are referring should be at Telerik.Web.UI, they are registered with TagPrefix="telerik". Also, make sure that ASPNET or NETWORK AUTHORITY user has permissions over your /bin.

    Let me know the result.

    Hi Ivan,

    I'm still getting the same errors after replacing the files.

    I verified that the ASPNET user (I'm developing on XP) has Full Control over the bin directory. All other "Allow" checkboxes are also checked.

    Can I ask you (or anyone really)- Can you see the RadTab, RadMultiPage and RadPageView controls in your Toolbox in Visual Studio?

    Since these controls are missing in my Toolbox, I'm thinking this is either a registration or assembly loading issue. This assumes, of course, these controls are normally present in the Toolbox.

    Thanks,
    Jeff

    I was never able to resolve this issue.

    I noticed one additional funny thing when I was in the project's bin directory: The Telerik.Web.UI.dll had a Telerik.Web.UI.dll.refresh file next to it. The refresh file was pointing to the Telerik.Web.UI.dll in my Sitfinity 3.2 directory, rather than the current 3.5 project.

    I deleted the refresh file but I was still unable to compile.

    In any case, I uninstalled 3.5 and installed a fresh copy of 3.6. I can use the Admin interface again through a brand new project.

    Not to sound like a parrot, but I'm having these issues too. Suddenly a project which I'd not made changes to had issues with telerik controls.

    Getting the same error. I've read docs and have been searching for solutions for weeks. I've tried several things, including what was mentioned here but nothing has worked so far.

    It's getting annoying. :(

    Hello Tawnya,

    Try creating a simple static page in the project and in the aspx try to use the tag. If the tag is registered in the web.config you should be able to use it everywhere in the content of the project.

    Kind regards,
