    Hi Jim,

    Could you tell us which version of Sitefinity you use? I am not able to reproduce this problem using the standard edition version 3.6 build 1936. If  you are using the same version try using one of the default themes and master pages to figure out whether the problem is in your custom pages. It is possible that you have put some logic in your master page or theme that causes the problem.

    Let us know the result.

    All the best,

    Hello Mark,

    Check whether all resources are loaded when you open the page and try to drag/drop a control. We are not able to reproduce this behavior. Most probably some of the embedded resources fails to load. It could be blocked by some browser add on or other settings at your end. Please check the response from all resources that are being loaded when you are trying to drag/drop a control. You can do this by using FireBug or IE Developer Tools.

    Best wishes,

    Thanks Ivan.  This is basically a brand-new vm install, so there are no user-added IE addons installed.  When I go to the page:

    http://localhost/sitefinitycommunityedition/sitefinity/admin/pages.aspx?select=fa58965f-4816-47cc-b903-ef816be74f20

    I get 2 instances of this error below using the IE debugging tools for line 80 which I tagged with *** :

    "Object required  xxxxx_home.aspx?cmspagemode=preview&locknavigation=true, line 80 character 2"

    var form = document.getElementById("aspnetForm");
    ***    if (document.all && form.attachEvent){
            form.attachEvent ("onsubmit", SubmitHandler);
        }
        else if (document.addEventListener){
            form.style.cursor = "";
            form.addEventListener("submit", SubmitHandler, false);
        }

    Then when i finally try to edit the page, IE debugging tools keeps throwing the same error multiple times a second until I force-close the browser - had to take a screenshot of it as I could not regain control of the browser due to the error being constantly thrown in the IE debugging tools.....

    Hope this helps.
    Mark.

    Hi Mark,

    Have you checked whether all resources are loaded properly? Can you try to install the project on a different server? Could you run it through VS server?

    Ivan,

    What resources - please let me know exactly how to trace whichever ones you want.

    No, I can't install this on another server or my dev machine unfortunately.

    I loaded up the site in VS2010, and it seems the version of SiteFinity CE 3.7 is set to use .NET 3.5 even though this is shipping with the 4.0 WPI Installer.  That's an oversight I would think, at least it is an issue for someone with only the 4.0 framework installed like me in this case.  Anyway, I let it upgrade the project/solution to .Net 4.0 and then I don't get those particular errors, but do get new ones - see capture.jpg.  This happens when I drop some controls onto the content area, some produce the error, others don't.

    As I mentioned, this is a brand new install of the MS Web Platform Installer with .NET 4.0, VS2010 Express/SQL Express with the Sitefinity Community Edition 3.7 selected to be installed as well from the Installer - I made no changes or modifications, only tried to create 1 page and add controls and this is the resulting behavior.

    For me, right out of the box with these issues, is disappointing.

    Hello Mark,

    Sitefinity can work properly with VS 2010 although we have not announced that we officially support it. We do not support .NET Framework 4.0 with 3.x versions of Sitefinity. The project should remain build against .NET Framework 3.5 or 2.0. Most probably this is why you cannot get base functionality and features to work properly.

    Thanks Ivan.  Since it's bundled with the Windows Platform Installer for .NET 4.0 etc., and unless I missed a disclaimer, I didn't know that or stop VS from upgrading it.  That might be valuable information for others but I do realize my exact install situation might be less common than some others.

    In any event I guess I will try it again at some point soon with a clean image and see what results I get.

    Thanks much and will post any results I get.  Would love to give the product a whirl as I really do feel it would help what we are looking to do in a big way.

    Hello Mark,

    To confirm what Ivan said. Sitefinity Community Edition downloaded and installed using Microsoft's Web Platform Installer 2 only functions properly when used with ASP.NET version 2, 3.5, 3.5SP1. I also have the .Net 4 framework installed.

    I had the exact same problem you are getting. I simply changed the version of ASP.NET to 2.0.50727 for my SiteFinityCommunity application using the IIS admin console and then refreshed the application.

    That worked for me.
