    Hi

We are currently completing a requirements analysis to see if Sitefinity will be a viable option to use as a content management tool on our internet site.

One of the requirements is to allow personalization of content, we had thought the .Net web parts framework would fulfil this requirement.

This has what we have found so far:
You can put your web part on as a control
You can't put web zones on as they have to be created before the page init event
You can put webzones into a master page
You can't put the page in edit mode when in "design" mode of the web part.
If you move stuff around from webzone to webzone it doesn't appear to save the settings either.

Are web parts supported? Or is there another way to acheive personlization?

    Kind Regards,

    Jay Macilquham

    Hello Jay,

Currently, Sitefinity does not support Web Parts in Edit mode of the cms page. But you could use them on the public part of your site. A possible workaround is to implement Web Parts functionality in a normal .aspx page in your project in VS.NET. Then, you should create an External page in Sitefinity and set its "External page location" to the newly created .aspx page.

    Best wishes,

    Hi,

We have a web part which is working fine outside of a Sitefinity page, once it is placed into a Sitefinity page the public side doesn't save the users personalization, I was wondering if any had used web parts in Sitefinity?

    We are using 3.5 SP1.

    Kind Regards,

    Jay Macilquham

    Hi Jay,

We had information from some of our customers, that the web parts are working properly in Sitefinity pages, but only on the public side. We suggest disabling them in the Administration and in Edit mode.

I apologize that we are not able to help you much at this time

    Hi Georgi

I would be keen to talk to your customers who have implemented web parts in Sitefinity, are you able to either forward my details onto them or supply me with a contact email so I am able to work towards a solution.

    Kind Regards

    Hi,

I believe this thread is now almost a year old. Meanwhile, recently Sitefinity 3.7 was released. I've downloaded the Standard Edition for Sitefinity 3.7. I wanted to know whether this latest release supports web parts as I've a requirement for the same.

    Thanks,
    Saumitra

    Hello Saumitra,

3.x versions does not support web parts. We will try to come up with a solution to this problem in one of the 4.0 releases which are planned for the next year.
