    Hi,

    Hosting server details:

    Windows Web Server 2008 R2 SP1
It has .Net Framework 2.0 & 4.0 installed.
    IIS 7.5

We have a site based on sitefinity 3.6 SP1.
Currently we want to restrict public access to this site.
So in order to do this did following changes using IIS (7.5) - Web Site - Features List

    User Creation :

First we created new user e.g "xyz_access" using Server Manager
We add this user to root folder of the site with default permission (read, list, execute)

    Site - IIS Settings

    IIS
         Authentication
              Only Windows Authentication is enabled.
              All other are disabled.
    Management
         IIS Manage Permission
Add new web access user (e.g xyz_access)

    Public site :
After above setting, public website works fine and is only accessible through "xyz_access" user credentials.

    Sitefinity Admin Area - e.g. http://www.test.com/Sitefinity/admin/default.aspx
When accessing admin area it gives following

    Error :

This type of page is not served.
Description: The type of page you have requested is not served because it has been explicitly forbidden.  The extension '.aspx' may be incorrect.   Please review the URL below and make sure that it is spelled correctly.

    Requested URL: /Sitefinity/Admin/Default.aspx

Version Information: Microsoft .NET Framework Version:4.0.30319; ASP.NET Version:4.0.30319.1

Please do let us know how we can fix this problem and access sitefinity admin area.

    Regards,
    Gaurav

    Hello Gaurav,

IIS Authentication Only Windows Authentication is enabled. All other are disabled.

Sitefinity cannot work properly if you have disabled FormsAuthentication

Sitefinity expects objects of type - RolePrincipal and FormsIdentity

So, basically you cannot turn off completely the forms authentication and replace it with windows authentication. This is why I suggest that you should use Active Directory integration

    Best wishes,
