I just created a custom module in 3.7 and now I want to add 'categories' and tags  to it on the backend like the modules out of the box have (events, news, etc.) how can I add those features to my custom module so my users can categorized and tag the items

    Hello NuToSitefinity,

Please take a look at the Products module for 3.x edition

    http://www.sitefinity.com/blogs/ivan/posts/09-03-11/sample_generic_content_based_module_products_module.aspx

You need views that inherits from

    Telerik.Cms.Engine.WebControls.Admin.CategoriesView and Telerik.Cms.Engine.WebControls.Admin.TagsView

since I created my module via a class and it usng usercontrols, will these pratices work with mine? My module shows up on the module menu and not under an "out of the box' module. I followed this webinar to create my mod.

so. can I still use the steps mentioned to get categories, permissions, etc?

    Hi NuToSitefinity,

There should not be a problem, but using using controls for modules architecture is useful for small modules with some simple functionality. It is better to use with class libraries and views.

    Hello NuToSitefinity,

In this case you need to implement your own persistence classes and custom categories. The views you are talking about can be used only for generic content bases modules.
