When I create an RSS feed for the News module, the author gets reported with their USERNAME, instead of their First + Last Name .  So, for example, if the user John Doe has a username j-doe, and he creates a new post in News module, that news item shows up in the RSS feed as being posted by j-doe.

If you ask me, there is no scenario in which this is acceptable--the site visitors should NOT be aware of authors' usernames.  It doesn't look pretty, it doesn't look official, and one could even argue that it poses a security threat.

So, is this a bug or just a default behavior of RSS feeds that can be changed?  If so, how?

    Thanks.

    Hi Marko,

There is a metakey "Author" for each content item. If this item has not been set, then the feed shows content item Owner. This is set internally in the code of the Rss provider. My suggestion is setting the Author texbox as required and adding some description text. Thus the content editors and other persons that are not familiar with this will be able to proceed with First or Last name. Additionally you could automatically assign the First name form ProfileBase class object to the texbox value.

That's perfect!  I myself do not usually work with the content in News module, so I must have missed the fact that there is an author field there.  Making this a required field will do the job.

    Thanks!

    Hi Marko,

We will try to come up with more elegant solution for one of the next releases. I am glad to hear that my suggestion has helped you.

Yes, a bit more elegant solution would be good, although I'm happy with making author a required field, for now (for my particular scenario).  At the minimum, you may wish to change the default behavior which, right now, picks up the username and sends it with the RSS feed (if author is not filled out).  I just think that the RSS feed subscribers / site visitors / the general public should never get to see the usernames of content editors/admins/etc.  Never.  But then the question is what you WOULD use when there is no author filled out, and if there is no First Name/Last Name either....  But I'll leave it up to you, Telerik gurus to figure that one out...  ;-)
