hi,

The Radeditor automatically converts "™" into Upper case character "T" instead of showing the "tm" mark after I save the content into the database. Is there anyway to configure the radeditor to display the "™" properly? On the demo site, it works perfectly. I am using community version on the local server, and I assume the demo site uses standard version. Will I still have the same problem if I purchase the standard version?

I read the article about "Converting Unicode symbols to numeric HTML entities using a content filter" from the link http://www.telerik.com/support/kb/aspnet-ajax/editor/converting-unicode-symbols-to-numeric-html-entities-using-a-content-filter.aspx . It says, a client side function needs to implemented. I copied the client side function code to the Admin.master page, however, I don't know which file I need to modify to trigger the function in the script. Can someone point it out for me please?

Thanks in advance.

Frank

Hi Frank ,

The example is fully working and it is triggered by OnClientLoad event of RadEditor control. You need to implement the logic in this templates where you have RadEditor control and you want to change the upper case letters with lower case letters.

There is no difference between Telerik.Web.UI assemble of the Community and Standard edition. Let us know if there is anything else that we can do for you.

HI Ivan,

Thanks for your reply. I guess my problem is I don't know which template the RadEditior control is on. I checked Editor.aspx in /Sitefinity/Admin, but I could find the code like
<telerik:radeditor id="RadEditor1" onclientload="OnClientLoad" runat="server"> </telerik:radeditor>

Could you help me out?

Thanks.

Hello Frank ,

Please send me a screenshot of the area you want to modify and I will let you know the changes you need to make. If you are using a user/custom control or RadEditor declaration in a page, please give us the code.

All the best,

Hello Ivan,

Thanks for your reply.

Here are the screen shots:

before saving the content to the database:
screenshot 1, screenshot 2

after saving the content
" ™ " converted into "T"

I didn't use any user/custom control or RadEditor declaration.

Thanks.

Hi Frank ,

The issue you describe is related to how the RadEditor handles the html entities. Please take a look at the KB Article Converting Unicode symbols to numeric HTML entities using a content filter.
To change the Editor's template, please make sure that you map the template first as shown in the KB Article How to map a view to an external template, in Sitefinity 3.6 or later?

Hello Georgi,

Thanks for your reply.

I've read the article, but I don't know which file I should modify. Could you tell me that? I am new to sitefinity, it will be great if you can tell me how to change it step by step.

Thank,

Frank

Hello Frank ,

Alright.
Let's assume that you want to change the way how the editor in the News section works. You have two screens there, containing the editor:
• When you create a new news item
• When you edit an existing news item
1. Download the ExternalTemplates.zip file from your Client.Net account;
2. Open the App_Data\Configuration\Telerik.Sitefinity.Configuration.ControlsConfix.xml file and find the following lines:
<!--Provides user interface for adding new news items in the News module.-->
<viewSettings hostType="Telerik.News.WebControls.Admin.NewsItemNew" layoutTemplatePath="~/Sitefinity/Admin/ControlTemplates/News/NewsItemNew.ascx" />
<!--Provides user interface for editing a news item in the News module.-->
<viewSettings hostType="Telerik.News.WebControls.Admin.NewsItemEdit" layoutTemplatePath="~/Sitefinity/Admin/ControlTemplates/News/NewsItemEdit.ascx" />

Note the description (in green). Note also the statement:
Telerik.News.WebControls.Admin.NewsItemEdit

Telerik, News, Admin, NewsItemEdit - these names are pretty much everything you need to see to understand where the control is located.

The layoutTemplatePath is where the template is located.

Once you map the template per the article, Sitefinity will use it instead of the embedded (default) one.

Let me know which editors (in which areas) you want to change, and will let you know about the config statement.
Kind regards,
Georgi

Hi Georgi,

Thank you very much. The problem has been solved. I really appreciate your help.

I have another quesiton though. Radeditor control is used for almost all the modules, e.g. generic content, news, blogs,..., it seems I have to modify all the templates in thoses controls which use Radeditor. Is there any way that I only need to modify one template file or Radeditor control that could apply to all the templates that use Radeditor control?

Thank you in advance.

Hi Frank ,

I can completely understand your concern. Unfortunately this is the only way now. The toolbor though is configured through the EditorToolsFile.xml, which is common for all RadEditor instances in the Sitefinity modules.

This doesn't help when you try to enter a trademark, and it brings back a T. Using the javascript converts all the Ts to trademarks!

You guys are really horrible at responding... FYI. Why remove the ability to insert a trademark? It makes no sense. Screw the addition of a Wiki... how bout you keep the basics working.

Hello Eric,

I am sorry to hear that you having difficulties with this functionality. It is by the way very well documented by the RadEditors team, and the functionality you need is there. There are several links provided in this forum thread, and the first person already got the problem solved.

Could you be so kind to let us know about your progress. We will do everything possible to help you as well, but we will need some more information on what you did so far.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation!

I just am at a loss to why you guys take out basic functionality that most clients need. Most do not have HTML experience.

1. How are they supposed to link an Image in the RTE?
2. Why can they insert ®, ©, etc.. but not a ™ with out some huge reach around?
3. Whatever happened to being able to create mailto links?

Basically, our clients aren't the brightest that use your RTE inside sitefinity. They dont know how to go into the code to do these things.

We appreciate the new features, but we need to keep the basics... Its just frustrating that we need to add additional time into doing basic things like being able to enter a trademark symbol. I need valid reasons to tell my boss as to why we should keep using sitefinity as our CMS of choice.

Hi Eric,

If I should be honest, I completely understand you feel about these issues. Let me answer your questions:

1. How are they supposed to link an Image in the RTE?
Please follow these steps.
a) Insert a new Image to the editor through the Image Dialog tool.
b) Select the image (highlight it)
c) Press the LinkDialog tool. Select the desired page.

Is that what you are trying to do, or create a hyperlink to an Image? If the second is the case, then you should only work with the LinkManager.

2. Why can they insert ®, ©, etc.. but not a ™ with out some huge reach around?
We contacted the RadEditor team, and they assured us that this issue is partially related to the browsers. They are already working on this issue, and will implement a special RadEditor content filter, which should convert the characters in a proper way, despite the browser's work on the editable text areas.

3. Whatever happened to being able to create mailto links?
The option disappeared when we switched the default RadEditor Link Manager tool to a dialog implemented for Sitefinity. The original one didn't have the option to insert links from the Sitefinity sitemap, so we had to create a new one. Please check the KB Article How to extend Custom RadEditor dialogs if you want to implement that option in the current dialog. I could also provide you with information on how to use the old dialog which has this option, but then you will not be able to insert pages.

I hope these answers will help you. Once again, I understand in what position you are in and apologize for the inconvenience.

Sincerely yours,
Georgi

I am unable to add a simple Registered trademark symbol (®) into my webpage. The above posts say this is indeed possible, however mine keep getting changed to Æ whenever I add them into my page content.

Any ideas what is going wrong?

Hello KC,

What Sitefinity version you are using? There are a lot of fixes and features introduced from the time of this forum thread. I have tested with a 5.0 project and both '™' and '®' work fine.
