For our new website, built using Sitefinity 3.7, I'm in the process of getting the whole site to use lowercase URL's only. For a lot of content the URL can be edited manually, and I've found a way to achieve the same for news items and blog posts. Now I'm trying to achieve the same thing for categories, but I'm starting to think that's not possible in this version.

In the 4.1 documentation, I've found the page that describes creation of a category. There, the URL can be edited manually. However, this seems to be different from the way things are in 3.7. I can edit a category, but all I can edit is the name/description, and whether it's a subcategory of another category.

Am I looking in the wrong place? Is it possible to have the URL's of categories as lowercase?

    Hello Michel,

Category url is formatted based on the name of the category, so it depends on whether you type the category name with upper case or lower cased. There is a way to workaround this issue with url rewriting.

Thanks for your quick reply Ivan! I would like to keep the category names the way they are, so I guess that the workaround is the way to go for us.

Is a workaround such as mentioned in this article what you mean? If not, could you point me in the right direction? Any help would be much appreciated.

Also, does this mean that when using the workaround, when you hover over a category, you will see a URL that starts with a capital, but clicking it leads to the lowercase URL because of the redirect? If so, then that's not 100% ideal I guess, but if it's as close as we're going to get it will have to do :)

    Hi Michel,

I haven't tested the module in the post you are referring. What I can tell you is that Sitefinity has its own url advanced rewriter that you can use.
    Check the following links

category tree node text and tooltip are based on CategoryName. If the name is with capital letters you will see the node text and tooltip in the same way that you entered it inside the backend when you created this category. This could be changed with a custom control that inherits from Telerik.Cms.Engine.WebControls.Categories.CategoriesTree where you can override GetNodeText virtual method and return  lowered category name using ToLower().
