    Hi.

    I hope you can help.

We have 2 CMS instances, fed via a load balancer.  What we are experiencing are deadlocks on CMS.

An example, showing 2 separate instances trying to reach the same destination :

    DatabaseName

    ObjectName

    TransactionName

    LastTranStarted

    OwnerSpid

    ClientApp

    HostName

    LoginName

    IsolationLevel

    InputBuf

    CMSContent

    CMSContent.dbo.sf_CmsContentVersion

    SELECT

    21/01/2010 14:24

    617

    .Net SqlClient Data Provider

    240843-CMS2

    CMSAdmin

    read committed (2)

     (@P_p1 nvarchar(5),@P_p2 int,@P_p3 int,@P_p4 nvarchar(11),@P_p5 nvarchar(11))SELECT  TOP 5 'DMetaData;ContentID;LangID;KeyValue;Application;ValueType;ShortText;LongText;DateTimeValue;IntegerValue;FloatValue;GuidValue;Boolean;Binary;Status;CntPrntID;' AS NN_TABLE_ID_1, T1.[ContentID], T1.[LangID], T1.[KeyValue], T1.[Application], T1.[ValueType], T1.[ShortText], T1.[LongText], T1.[DateTimeValue], T1.[IntegerValue], T1.[FloatValue], T1.[GuidValue], T1.[Boolean], T1.[Binary], T1.[Status], T1.[CntPrntID]     , 'DContentVersion;Application;ID;LangID;StatusLoc;DateModifiedLoc;DateCreatedLoc;OwnerLoc;' AS NN_TABLE_ID_2, [dbo].[sf_CmsContentVersion].[Application], [dbo].[sf_CmsContentVersion].[ID], [dbo].[sf_CmsContentVersion].[LangID], [dbo].[sf_CmsContentVersion].[StatusLoc], [dbo].[sf_CmsContentVersion].[DateModifiedLoc], [dbo].[sf_CmsContentVersion].[DateCreatedLoc], [dbo].[sf_CmsContentVersion].[OwnerLoc]          FROM [dbo].[sf_GCMetaData] AS T1 LEFT OUTER JOIN [dbo].[sf_CmsContentVersion] ON (T1.[Application]

    CMSContent

    CMSContent.dbo.sf_GCMetaData

    user_transaction

Could you throw any light on this ? Or are there any configuration parameters we may be overlooking ?

    Thanks.

    Hi Nick,

Thank you for posting your question.

We are not sure what the problem is though. The two rows show operations over two different tables, in the same minute (but there's nothing for the seconds, or milliseconds) - many things could happen in 1 minute interval. What is more important is that SQL server puts the queries in a queue, so even if two queries come in a very same time, internal mechanism will put them in a queue and will not force the execution of both of them in parallel.

Do you have any error logs or abnormal behavior of the public site though? Why do you think that the mentioned queries represent a problem?

    Thank you in advance.

    All the best,
    Georgi

    Hi Georgi.

I think we may have slightly crossed wires here.
Is it possible that you could supply a name and contact number for someone I could ring at your end.  I think this issue would get rectifed much more quickly that way, than keep adding to this thread.
Coupled with that, we have more servers we are about to add to the pool, and I am concerned this deadlock issue will get worse, so I now have time constraints to contend with as well.

Any contact info would be much appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Nick,

Unfortunately we are not providing phone support yet. Here is a blog post explaining why - http://blogs.telerik.com/vassilterziev/posts/09-07-09/why_doesn’t_telerik_offer_phone_im_support.aspx

Following up on the issue - can you please elaborate on it? The problem will be discussed within the team, if you have a concern that the support team would not understand the issue.

    Thank you for your understanding.

    Best wishes,
    Georgi
