    Dear Sirs,
we have created a site with SiteFinity 3.7 (trial version).
Now we are trying the Administration=>Tools=>Export Feature, but it does not work, it seems there is no progress in the process of exporting.
We can see the zip file created in App_Data\Sitefinity_Exports\my_template folder, but (we've seen it with folder explorer pressing F5) it grows in size and then it goes to 0, then again it increases and decreases...
    Could You please help us?
Thank you very much for your help.
    Best Regards.
    Sergio

    Hello Sergio,

Thank you for using our services.

Generally there are no errors with the exporting tool. I have tested it several times on different projects both on Sitefinity 3.6 SP2 and Sitefinity 3.7 versions. Let me just ask you whether you received some kind of error message? I am asking you because currently the exporting tool does not actually show progress in some kind of meter (percentage complete for example). The tool takes some time to complete, however it does the job. Can you verify that if you wait for several minutes you will get the site exported?

    Sincerely yours,
    Radoslav Georgiev

    Hi Radoslav,
as a matter of fact, I didn't receive any kind of error, the progress bar I was looking at during elaboration was IE8's.
Maybe the process takes much time (I waited for 10 minutes), I'll try the export another time and let you know.
In the meanwhile, thank you very much for your support.
    Best Regards,
    Sergio

    Hi Sergio,

    Thank you for the feedback.

Indeed the process is quite slow. I have exported a ~60MB project for about 25-30 minutes. Please, give us update on how exporting goes on your side.

    Kind regards,

    Hi Radoslav,
I tried to export the site again. Since it took more than one hour I stopped it.
I didn't get any kind of error, but I saw from Task Manager that even if I stopped it (S+F5) there were many instances of "iexplore.exe".
Maybe it is a useful information for you: I have run the export from the .NET solution (pressing F5), not passing throgh IIS, but using the ASP .NET Development Server.
Anyway, now I am going to copy the site "by hand".
    Thanks and Regards,
    Sergio

    Hi

Have you run the Explorer in Run as Administrator and then tried?

    Hi,
this test was made under Windows XP SP3, not Vista.
Just un update: I tried also launching the export from localhost (not the .net web server) but after more than one hour there is a timeout.
    Regards

    Hello Sergio,

I am really not sure what is causing the hang. I guess you tried to use IIS instead of Cassini.
If you this is an option for you - you can send us the database, and we will try to export your web site from it here. Then we will send the files back to you.

    Just let us know.

    Best wishes,
    Georgi

    Hi Georgi,
    I made another test today:
I published the site from my local hd to Windows Server 2003 (Enterprise Edition).
I gave full control to every group/user name with respect of the folders and files of the site.
I exported the site from the Server and the export was OK.
I think that the problem of the export was related to some permissions missing.
Afterwards, I imported the template but some data were missing (like the products module).
So I copied the site and database by myself, changed the connection string in web.config and now everything is ok.
    Regards,
    Sergio

    Hi Sergio,

I am very glad that everything is fine. Yes, the products module is not included in the export tool since it does not come with Sitefinity out of the box.

Let us know if you have any other questions.

    Sincerely yours,
    Georgi
