When you click Site Overlay from Google Analytics a SF site redirects and therefore prevents Site Overlay from working. Has anyone discovered a workaround for this. Is there some sort of querystring that can be added to force Site Overlay on.

    Sincerely,

    Ben

    Hi Ben,

I assume you are talking about the group pages and why their click count is always 0 when using the Site Overlay feature of the Google Analytics. This is due to the fact that we are redirecting the traffic from group page to the first subpage in that group by adding the following code to the header : 301 moved permanently. Unfortunately, for the time being, you are not able to set this to some other value.

The reason why we do this is because of CEO optimizations. If the redirect is not done this way, search engines would treat it as if you had a content page called: http://demo.sitefinity.com/academics.aspx (if we take as example the Sitefinity demo site). And some of the hits for the first page of the group would be split between the content page and the group page.

Group pages in Sitefinity are created only to be containers of other pages. You should think of them as folders. Though, in some of the future versions, we will provide ways to redirect traffic from the group pages with some other http status code.

Thanks for drawing our attention to this issue.

Scratch that it works fine in Firefox. It must be an IE7 issue.

Thanks for the reply though. You guys are so great on support, even with folks like me that ask a ton of questions.

    Sincerely,

    Ben
