    Hello,

I'm trying to figure out the best way to use Sitefinity as far as the use of images goes. Currently I'm a little confused as to whether it's best to use the Images & Documents or the Files area. The reason I'm confused is this:

Take a news item for example, when you are editing the content of the news item and choose to insert an image, the dialogue box that appears defaults to the Images & Documents module (seems like telerik would like us to use this module for images). But when I then go to add a thumbnail for the news item I don't even have access to the Images & Documents module only the Files module (so now I have images in two separate places).

So what is the best practice here? Is there a specific time to use Images & Documents? To me it seems like it might just be easier to use the Files module, but haven't delved deep enough to know for sure.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Kalvin

    Hi Kalvin MacLeod,

I agree with you. It does not make sense to have images/docs in different places. There is workaround editing the template for news - ControlPanelInsert.ascx and ControlPanelEdit.ascx and implementing new selector - Telerik.Libraries.WebControls.DocumentsSelector, Telerik.Libraries

We have some problems with multiple selectors for modules and the only way to get this working is to implement the selector in a RadWindow.

Thanks for the answer. I guess it begs the question, wouldn't it just be easier to keep the images in the file system and use the Files selector? What functionality will I be losing by doing that?

    Hello Kalvin MacLeod,

Our idea of having these items in the database, is to have workflow, versioning, multilingual content and multiple data providers for them. This is what you are going to lose if you work with file system files. Some of the functionality now is not working as expected. We expect to fix this module for Sitefinity 4.0.

There is nothing wrong to work the file system though.

    Kind regards,
