    Hello,

I have an existing Sitefinity project together with its SQL Server database. The project is currently deployed in one of our development servers where Sitefinity is installed. I would like to create same project in my own machine. I'm running Win2008 server. Can you please provide steps in doing this.

    Thanks.

    Hello Allan Lazaro,

If you want to create the same project on your own machine you can just backup the database and copy the whole project.
Then on your own machine restore the backup you have already created, create new application or website under IIS, change your web.config connectionString section to use the current SQL server. Run and install the project.

Another option is exporting the website using Sitefinity Exporter Tool.
The tool currently exports all data from pages in the Pages section as well as data from the following modules: Generic Content, News, Lists, Blogs.
    Steps:

To access the Export tool, go to Administration > Tools:
To export a web site as a template, do the following:
    1. Type a name for the site template.
    2. Type a description for the current site.
    3. Click Export.
    4. Wait until the project data is saved as a zip archive in the ~/App_Data/Sitefinity_Exports folder.
    5. In the C:\Program Files\telerik\Sitefinity3.x\ProjectManager\Templates folder, create a new
folder and rename it to Your_template. Extract the files from Your_template.zip to this folder.

Now, your template appears in the list of predefined site templates and you can select it to create a
new project based on it. At the third step of the Project Startup wizard, you can decide whether to use all the content from the template (pages, templates, various content items) or not. If you clear the checkbox, your site will not have any pages and you will actually have to start from scratch.
    Sincerely yours,

I'm having difficulty importing a website that i've exported.  Here is what I've tried (working with 3.7):

      - Exported the web site using the administration tool
      - Created a folder under projectmanager/templates
      - Extracted the exported web site zip file into the folder (which now contains project.zip and web.config.xml)
      - Created a new project from the sitefinity project manager page
      - Selected the exported template
      - The project manager gave a success message and I then clicked back to view all projects (the new project was listed)
      - The project manager created the new website folder and a database file (i noticed that the database file is significantly smaller than the original website) which i then attached to SQL 2005 and added the [machine]/ASPNET user as the owner
      - Made sure the [machine]/ASPNET user had modify privileges to the AppData folder, the db file and the db log file
      - The project manager also created the virtual directory which I then configured to add the 3 extension mappings and to turn on (cause it was off) integrated windows authentication. Also added default.aspx to the Default Documents list
      - Clicked on the edit button inthe Project Manager to administer the website (lots of HD crunching at that point)
      - In the Set Database page, selected SQL Server 2005 / 2008 for the Database, checked Windows Authentication, entered localhost for the server, and entered the database name
      - Entered the PW and email in the Register Administrator page
      - Made sure the sample content option WAS checked in the Import Template Data page
      - Clicked I'm done and project manager crunched for a while then displayed the administration login page
      - I entered the admin id and pw and successfully logged into the administrator
      - When to Pages and all are MISSING!

    Please help,

    Alex

    Hello Alex Florin,

"  - When to Pages and all are MISSING!"

Are there any pages to the database? You can take a look at the following table - sf_PageBase.

If the problem persists could you send us a link from where we can download only the exported website as an archive.

The sf_PageBase table only contains the following records:
      - Main
      - Default
      - Root

None of the exported pages are listed.

You can download the exported website archive (StrokeExported.Zip) here:

    Thanks,

    Hi Alex Florin,

I am not able to reproduce the problem you have using your files. Please take a look at the attached video.
If you are trying to import the template to a newly installed project manager, make sure that the template folder name is the same as the exported one "StrokeExport"

    Hello,

I'm using Sitefinity 9.2, can I do the same thing to import my existing project?

I have exported my files but I cannot find the folder telerik that you described. All I have in my program files is a folder called Progress. Should I create the folders?

    Thank you.
