    Hello,

    We are having a problem with the Administration News module in our community edition of Sitefinity. The publication and expiry date are not being displayed correctly when viewing all the news items. However, the date is correct in the database.

    I have read a number of posts on this forum, and I believe I have to upgrade our Sitefinity to the latest version. I have been provided with version 3.7 SP4 in my account, however all the files are executables, and I am not 100% sure how I would go about installing this on our webserver without damaging any of the files we already have. Apart from the date problem, the rest of the system works brilliantly.

    Could you please advise me on the best process to solve this problem? Am I able to get a copy of just a couple of individual files that can be uploaded and replaced to solve the issue? Or do I have to install everything that is included in the executable file?

    Many thanks,

    Ravi

    Hi Ivan,

    Thank you for the patches. I've read through your Upgrade Instructions, but I am having trouble updating Sitefinity to see if it resolves the problem with the news item dates.

    Is it a matter of just replacing all the existing Sitefinity files provided in the zip file and then updating the web.config file, or am I missing something else? We have not written any custom code, so I am assuming not much would have to be changed.

    As an example, when I replaced all the files in the 'bin' folder and then updated the web.config file, it prompted me to setup the database as if it was a fresh installation. Is this correct?

    Many thanks,

    Ravi

    Hello Ravi,

    What version of SQL Server are you using - SQL 2000/2005/2008? Make sure that the Nolics drivers are properly set in the web.config

    For SQL 2000

    driver="Telerik.DataAccess.Providers.ExtendedSqlServer2000Provider, Telerik.DataAccess"

    Copy Code
    <dataAccess defaultConnection="DefaultConnection">

                <connections>

            <add name="DefaultConnection" driver="Telerik.DataAccess.Providers.ExtendedSqlServer2000Provider, Telerik.DataAccess" connectionStringName="Sitefinity" />

         <add name="GenericContentConnection" driver="Telerik.Cms.Engine.Data.Providers.GCSql2000Provider, Telerik.Cms.Engine.Data" connectionStringName="Sitefinity" />

                   </connections>
    </dataAccess>

    For SQL 2005/2008
    driver="Telerik.DataAccess.Providers.ExtendedSqlServer2005Provider, Telerik.DataAccess"

    Copy Code
         <dataAccess defaultConnection="DefaultConnection">
    <connections>
     <add name="DefaultConnection" driver="Telerik.DataAccess.Providers.ExtendedSqlServer2005Provider, Telerik.DataAccess"
      connectionStringName="Sitefinity" />
     <add name="GenericContentConnection" driver="Telerik.Cms.Engine.Data.Providers.GCSql2005Provider, Telerik.Cms.Engine.Data"
      connectionStringName="Sitefinity" />
    </connections>

    For instance- the application is configured for SQL Server 2005, but the actual database is SQL Server 2000, since the sys.indexes view don't exist in that version.

    You could also try the following

    1. Open the database of the project with which you have problems
    2. Locate the table sf_CmsVariables and open it
    3. Locate the row with name "SchemaVersion" and change the value to 1 (or anything different than it is).
    4. Try to run the project again.

    This should force Sitefinity to upgrade the database to the latest version once again.

    Hello Ravi,

    The web.config you have is not properly formatted. Your are missing the localization setting. Please compare the web.config files and merge them properly.
