    Hi shraddha,

Thank you for using our services.

Unfortunately in the current versions of Sitefinity permissions are per module, so you will not be able to assign permissions for individual lists. We are working on granular permissions for our next major version - Sitefnity 4.0. In this version permissions will go down to the single item - e.g. news item, blog post, image, list, etc.

Wouldn't it be possible to put the list on a page that itself is available only to certain roles? (I'm a Sitefinity newbie with a similar need for controlling access to certain content. I need some kind of solution). Thanks!

    Hi Michael Waddell,

For the backend you can replace the default view and override InitializeControls where you can subscribe for Grid.RowDataBound. Inside the RowDataBound event you will have access to all list items, so you could hide them based on a certain role.

For the public control ListsDisplay - it depends on which mode you are going to use. The control supports about 7 presentation modes. For instance for Page and List mode you can override the virtual PageListItems_ItemDataBound and PageListItems_ItemCommand from where you could show/hide a given IListItem

That approach sounds promising - do you have any further information on this topic, in general. I would like to direct my programmers to look into creating this granularity. Even better would be example code and/or an already built solution/widget. Barring an already built solution, what's the path forward (next few steps...)? thx.

    Hi Michael Waddell,

You could take a look at Lists API overview. Here is a post that shows how to create a custom control and change its datasource which is another option - for instance - crate a custom selector for lists that will specify which items will be added to the datasource and then bind the control.

    Sincerely yours,
