    Hi - Our site design has a horizontal header menu and a side panel bar navigation. The panel bar basically lists the sub menu options. In the panel bar, we'd like to hide the top level menu option. I would have thought by setting the StartingNodeOffset = 1, that would take care of it. Any ideas?

    Horizontal Menu
    Services
    -Service 1
    -Service 2
    ...

    In the side panel bar, we'd like to display
    Service 1
    Service 2

    (Services should not be listed).
    Thanks.

    Hi J,

    I assume that you are not using our latest version. This problem was known issue in our previous releases, but it is fixed and work as expected in Sitefinity 3.2SP2 hotfix.

    There are two solutions for the problem:
    The first one is to upgrade your application to 3.2SP2 Hotfix 1616.
    In the second way you should edit your SitePanelbar.ascx file:

    1. Navigate to the folder containing SitePanelbar.ascx control. It is located under \[YourProject]\Sitefinity\UserControls\Navigation directory.
    2. Replace the row below

    <asp:SiteMapDataSource
     ID
    ="SiteMapDataSource1"

    runat="server"

    ShowStartingNode="false" />

    with

    <asp:SiteMapDataSource

    ID="SiteMapDataSource1"
     runat
    ="server"
     ShowStartingNode
    ="false"

    StartingNodeOffset="1" />

    This will do the trick. The problem was no synchronization between the control designer and the control itself.

    Please let us know about the result.

    All the best,

    Thanks Ivan. I'll look into upgrading. How do I find out my current version and SP? Is there a place I can look. Thanks.

    Hi J,

    You can find your current version by loading a Sitefinity page through IE or Firefox browser. Then, right click on the page and select "View page source". Please find the meta tag with name="Generator". It's content property will show you the version you use.
    You can also check your version by navigating to your project bin folder. Find Telerik.Cms.dll file, right click on it and go to details property - the product version is also written there.

    Ivan - Made the change in sitepanelbar.ascx so StartingNodeOffset="1" but that didn't do it. In the designer, startfromcurrentnode=false and showstartingnode=true.
    Idea?

    Hi J,

    Let's see another approach. I will let you know what I did. So I believe that you will manage to follow my steps and set up the same functionality for your project:

    I created a master page with some content place holders. Then, uploaded the page as a template via Sitefinity' manager. For this template I dropped Site Menu and Panel Bar controls. I had created two pages "Home" and "Contacts". Each of these pages had two sub pages. Then, clicked "edit" SitePanelBar control button and set:

    • StartingNodeOffset =0
    • StartFromCurrentNode=true
    • ShowStartingNode = false

    You can take a look at our Developer Manual section "Working with Navigation Controls". Just to let you know I used v3.2 SP2 hotfix 1616. This is the latest release. If you still experience problems with
    this behavior of the controls, please let us know which version you are using and we will perform a test.

    Best wishes,
