    I was happy to notice on the Telerik website that the RAD Controls for AJAX suite is compatible with Mono.  I was wondering if there are any plans to make Sitefinity Mono compatible, since this would potentially save a decent amount of money on hosting not having to license Windows Server 2003 or 2008.  Running your excellent community edition of Sitefinity, on free Linux and MySQL hosting is certainly appealing from a price perspective!

    Has anyone actually tested Sitefinity under Mono internally, for example?  If you're interested in getting Mono to work with Visual Studio, here are some articles I found useful:

    Hi Kevin,

    According to MoMA, there is still a lot that has not been yet implemented in Mono. You can run this tool against your bin directory and see the report for yourself.

    I'ts 3 years later now.
    Can anyone provide me with an updated status on this topic? Can we run Sitefinity sites on Mono?
    Best regards, Tys

    As of right now, Mono doesn't implement the following assemblies that the default 5.0SP1 project references:
    * System.Activities
    * System.ServiceModel.Activities
    * System.ServiceModel.Channels
    * System.Web.Entity

    The most immediate thing not working seems to be related to the Microsoft.Identity framework and claims based authentication.  Basically, Mono (as of 2.10.8-1) doesn't support Sitefinity, which is a shame but Mono is improving all the time.

    We haven't tested Mono 3.x yet. Unfortunately we haven't scheduled any time for this, so we can't commit to a time-frame yet.

    Another 3 years gone by... Still the thing holding us up is mono not supporting Windows Identity Foundation.

    However, there are exciting things happening in the .NET/Linux world... Native .NET support and coding platforms...

    Windows Identity Foundation is being shunned now, in favour of modern technologies like OWIN.

    @Georgi - Any likelihood of moving away from WIF?  Or better yet - moving up towards vNext?  I know we just got ASP.NET 4.5 a second ago, but I'm feeling greedy..

    I'd just love to see us able to host sites using anything but IIS.  It's got it's good points, but it's sure got some bad ones too!
