Thank you for the discussion.
Q: Configuring RadEditor the same right across Sitefinity Admin use to
be a lot easier in the previous version of RadEditor for ASP.Net when
the Editor use to be able to reference a single config file. Now we
find this a real challenge as some of our sites have up to 40 instances
of RadEditor in the admin and configuring them all is not easy.
Sitefinity doesn't reference a theme for RadEditor so there isn't a
easy way to configure all editors at once apart from the toolbar... any
We made this because we have got a lot of request to provide more flexibility in the backend regarding the RadEditor. Now you could have different editor in every single module. You can still combine the editors configuration in one file and use it for your own purposes, but this will require some effort.
Q: Some of our clients specify they want their site done in HTML 4.01 rather than XHTML for their Sitefinity site - we have found this a real challenge cause RadEditor doesn't "seem" to appear to support HTML 4.01 as well as it does XHTML. Any comments?
The RadEditor is optimized for XHTML content only. You can enable the Validation tool though. It has an option to validate if the content is HTML4.01 compatible, along with some other options. This will help you to check your content before publishing.
Q: In Sitefinity the RadEditor right click on image "Image Properties" dialog doesn't support the Image & Docs module. So once you have set an image in your page you can't change it in place and the content manager has to delete the image and re-insert - which is annoying if they are using a snippet. Any plans to fix this issue or is there a known work around?
We are planning to rework all custom dialogs we use in the editor. They are not so flexible as they could be.
Q: What happened to the custom RadEditor Sitefinity skin in 3.5? WebBlue kinda looks out of place and not as professional looking for clients.
The truth is that the Skinning mechanism of the editor has changed a lot in several versions ago. This made our skin obsolete. We are planning to provide a new Sitefinity skin with some of our next versions.
Q: You mentioned about MS Word clean on paste earlier in the Webinar. We notice often that this leaves and empty p tag every second paragraph <p> </p> is there any way around this or can those be cleaned out?
Everything depends on the ContentFilter that is being applied. Please refer to the discussion Paste problems with MS Word 2003 and Firefox 3.0.3
, I think that you will find it helpful. Our RadControls Team could provide you with more information if you are interested.
Q: Last question sorry... in Sitefinity 3.5 and Firefox 3 we are seeing a large amount of padding above the RadEditor toolbar, below the edit window of the editor and the Editor's container div. Known issue? Actually the Editor in this forum has issues in Firefox 3 too?
I will have to check this with our front-end developers. Nevertheless, the RadControls are changing with each new release, and we restyle our pages everytime. The things should look better with the 3.6 release and the latest RadControls.
Q: Will the development team be considering adding custom modules to RadEditor for Sitefinity modules so users can easily insert links to news etc.
This is an interesting question. Could you please let us know, which functionalities you require the most? The RadEditor's APIs could help you to build your own Editors Dialog, which are intecting with our APIs as well. Still, it will be interesting for us to know the things you require most.
Once again, thank you for this great discussion!
