    Hi

    I'm having a look into the silver light video library player and need to know the following

    What videos does it support?
    i've succesfully tested a WMV file, but an FLV file doesn't work
    are there any other file formats that work?

    thanks

    Hi Ivan,

    Is there any other way/hack to get flvs to work from Sitefinity?

    thanks.

    Hello Zahid Ali,

    The easiest way would be to use the Generic Content control. You can create a folder ~/Files in your project and add flv files there. After that drop a Generic Content control on your pages and use the flash manager to add flash video to the control content. You can take a look at the following KB article on how to modify the flash manager to look for flash videos in different directory, as well as increase the max upload size (also a flash manager property): How to Change the Flash Manager's File Upload Path Programmatically.

    You can also take a look at the following control submitted by one of our community members: Shockwave Flash Video Control.

    Hi Radoslav,

    Ok - I can now see the flvs showing in flash manager and i've managed to change the filesize too. The problem is, when I add flv from flash manager, i doesn't work. The apparent reason I believe is, there is no flash player to run the flv. Does sitefinity not do this when .flv is added?

    thanks.

    Hi Zahid Ali,

    When you use the flash player it generates the following HTML in the content item's content:
    <object classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" width="800" height="600" align="middle">
    <param name="Movie" value="/Blank37SP2/Files/Blogs.swf">
    <param name="play" value="true">
    <param name="quality" value="high">
    <param name="loop" value="false">
    <param name="menu" value="true">
    <param name="align" value="middle"><embed src="/Blank37SP2/Files/Blogs.swf" width="800" height="600" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" quality="high" loop="false" menu="true" align="middle"></object>

    This is enough to get it playing as it using the macromedia flash player. This means that your browser must have this plugin installed.

    Kind regards,

    hi Radoslav,

    it works of ".swf" not ".flv". I'm trying to add flv directly to generic content.

    any thoughts?

    thanks.

    Hi Zahid Ali,

    Thank you for getting back to me.

    The editor's managers work with files that can be rendered and displayed by the browser, e.g. images, links, swf and movies. That's why, the Flash manager does not allows .flv / .fla files, because they are source code files and they cannot be rendered by the browser.

    That is why, currently, we do not plan to provide direct support for FLV files, because in order to play FLV files you need to use a specific FLV player, which is not free.

    If you wish to play FLV files should first get a key for a certain flash player, and then a user control which will wrap the player you are using. Similar cotnrol (working with swf) can be found in this forum thread: Add SWF o0r Flash video in the pages.. If you have a flash player you can modify the control to fit your needs.

    Best wishes,
