    Hi all,
We are glad to inform you that SP1 for Sitefinity 3.5 is now available for download from your Client.Net accounts. The service release is addressing the following issues:

    Major Fixes:

    Sitemap provider fixes
    - Object Reference not set to an instance of an object error, while working with templates
    - An item with the same key has already been added error, which is reproduced on high traffic web sites in rare occasions

    Editor fixes
    - Dynamic links in the RadEditor
    - External links in the Editor - fixes
    - Script tag is not stripped from the content anymore
    - File Upload not working in the Editor
    - Image control, select from Uploaded Files - fixes

    Other Fixes
    - Second level control properties not being saved
    - Page group not redirecting to the child page default url
    - Additional Url fixes
    - NewsArchive and BlogArchive control fixes
    - Uploading of master page code-behind file was not possible
    - Redirecting to External Page not working as expected
    - Minor Css fixes

    Known Issues

    Search
    - Saving a Page does not add it to the Index. It needs to be Published
    - Deleting a page with multiple language versions doesn’t remove it automatically from the Index

    Images&Documents Module
    - Workflow and Versioning are not supported
    - Setting the Image Control to display “One per page” creates redundant pagination
    - The following setting doesn’t work: ContentItemKeyPersistance="Cookie"
    - When you upload more than 2 files and add tag and click on the "Save changes" button, you will see that this tag added to all files in library
-DownloadList control – with Firefox, when you click on the name of file and select "Save File" option, extension for file is missing

    Medium Trust
     - Changes made in Edit mode to a page are not refreshed automatically. They become visible upon refresh or publish.

    Pages
    - Versioning of Pages does not display correct data for Created date.

    Events
    - When ContentView and EventView controls are added to the same page and no provider is specified for them, the events list is displayed by the ContentView control, instead of EventView. There is no such issue when Generic Content provider is specified.

    RadEditor
    - After changing the image properties through Set Properties Dialog, the image link is no longer dynamic.
    - Google Chrome and Safari: difficult to select an image added in RadEditor.

    Other
    - ContentView/BlogPost/NewsView/EventsView controls – you should choose categories from the FilterExpression section and not from the Obsolete one.
    - NewsView/EventView/BlogPosts controls – when the single item page has default additional url,  the content item will not be displayed.
    - BloggersList control does not show correctly blog posts count, when Multilingual support is enabled.
    - Generic Content Control - you cannot edit and save shared generic content

If you want to upgrade your current version, you might be interested in the Upgrade Instructions.

We will be glad to receive any feedback from you.

    Best wishes,
    The Sitefinity Team

I'm very happy to hear that dynamic hyperlinks are now available within the generic content (rad editor). I know many of us on the forum had requested this feature. Thanks for listening.

This is great news, thanks for all your hard work guys

I notice there are quite a few outstanding issues which would effect me, so i'm probably going to wait till the next version

Please could you let me know if you are planning to do a service pack release with just bug fixes, or if the next version will contain new functionality
I would hope its just bug fixes so we have a very stable application

Also could you let me know when the next version will be released, i just need to know a ball park

    1-2 months
    3-6 months
    etc

    thanks guys

    Hi Quade,

    Thank you for your feedback!
    I completely understand your concerns.

We plan to release a SP2 by the end of year. I expect it to be in the mid of December. There are many cool things we want to implement, but SP2 will provide fixes and optimizations to the current functionality only. The only new thing in SP2 will be RadControls Q3 2008.

Quade, we will appreciate if you could open a new support thread and list the things that stops you from upgrading. I could not promise that we will fix everything, but it will certainly point us in the right direction.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding!

I would appreaciate a complete change log with each release of Sitefinty.  It is very frustrating to have to stumble upon changes in order to determine what needs to be fixed.

In the 3.5 upgrade you removed CreateFilter() from the redering pipeline in the NewsView control.  In the 3.5 SP1 upgrade you changed the template from bulleted list to RadTreeView.  Both of these changes did not make it into the highlights you call a change log.  Please exercise better change management practices in the future.

I will no longer be upgrading my sitefinity installation due to the lack of documentation with each upgrade.  It is far quicker for me to simply replace your modules and functionality when I need to fix a bug.

I just tripped across this working in 3.5 today from the Other Category...Generic Content Control - you cannot edit and save shared generic content

This seems like a pretty big issue, any chance of a work around or hot fix...  I tried to save a Generic Content item as shared today on a page and no luck.  Assume this is the issue referred to in the release notes.

    Hi there,

    I noticed the following when comparing the web.config of my 3.5 website against the 3.5 SP1 patch;

The sections are ommitted in the new version:

          <section name="blogs" type="Telerik.Blogs.Configuration.SectionHandler, Telerik.Blogs" requirePermission="false" />
          <section name="cms" type="Telerik.Cms.Configuration.SectionHandler, Telerik.Cms" requirePermission="false" />

do I delete from my version?

There appears to be no other changes in this service pack upgrade to the web.config...can you confirm?

    Hello Matthew,
These lines are there, but the new line before them is missing. Just scroll a bit to the right to see them :) The truth is there are no changes in the web.config file.

    Brook,
We agree. We are not sure whether we will be able to provide a workaround, but it is in our ToDo list with a high priority this issue to be fixed.

    Jeremy,
Thank you for sharing your opinion. It is really important for us to understand what is missing, and what we will have to improve. I also agree that we will have to be more precise with the changelogs and the release notes, so I will bring this issue to the team for a discussion.

    Georgi,

Any word yet on a SP2 to fix some of the known issues?  This one is turning out to be a big problem:

Generic Content Control - you cannot edit and save shared generic content

Do you happen to have a work around that I could implement for that one or maybe a hotfix?

    Thanks,
    Adam

    Hi,

I'd like to make a recommendation that Telerik consider including SP level updates in the product roadmap information page. Or alternatively create a service pack/hotfix info page. It can be confusing and frustrating to have to sort through the forums to find information on upcoming service pack or hotfix releases. Estimated dates and change logs would be ideal.

The extra transparency would cut down on the confusion, and also keep us better informed as to what changes are coming. For large scale sites, upgrading takes a fair amount of planning and it would be helpful to find out ahead of time when and what is changing so we can plan for it.

    Just my 2 cents.

    Kevin.

I want to put my 2 cents worth in here regarding release of a fix for the generic content module.  Given (at least for our web site) the generic content control is probably the most commonly used control in the system it astounds me that a release would be made that disabled such a key feature.

We'd really like a patch a lot faster than "mid December"  which we are concerned will get pushed to "late December" or worse yet 2009.

Anyway, would appreciate acceleration of the patch date if at all possible.

    Thanks
    Barb

    Hi Foodsleuth,

Thank you for sharing your opinion.
The problem is already fixed in our internal builds, but there is no way we can send you a fix earlier, as the code is surrounded with some other changes that need to be finished. The work is on progress and so far mid of December looks very promising as a time frame for the next release.

    Hi,

Do you have an updated time frame for 3.5 SP2?  I don't see it in my Client.net and it was my understanding that you were going to release it 3 weeks ago.  I'm assuming you ran into some delays with the holidays, but I'm surprised this forum just dropped off....  Any news?

Also, what's the time frame for 4.0?

    Thanks a lot!

    Hello Ben Alexandra,

We decided to release Sitefinity 3.6, instead of 3.5SP2. You can have more information at the following forum thread - http://www.sitefinity.com/support/forums/support-forum-thread/b1043S-bthacb.aspx

    Hi,

Yes, I found that after I posted, thanks.  It would be great if you had a central place where you discussed releases, features and time lines.  I find that I and others stumble around looking for release updates and notes and they end up being at the end of some other forum where someone asks and you respond and the thread gets diluted and becomes about the release.  I've seen other people mention it, too.

With 3.6, will there likely be a couple of service packs before the bugs are worked out?  I generally find SP2 is the best build, although most of my clients are running 3.2 SP2 HF1, because SP2 had some problems.  We are a bit in limbo right now because I was reading about problems that people had with 3.5 SP1, so we were waiting for SP2, not that will be 3.6 and I'm just nervous that there will be problems with 3.6 that will cause my clients problems.

I understand it's a balancing act between getting new features out there and introducing new bugs, but it's always very time consuming to upgrade clients and then find and deal with bugs on our end, so I try to wait for the solid builds.

Anyways, thanks for a great product and I look forward to some of the new features in the future
