    I have a subscription to Ajax ASP.NET controls and would like to add a few of them to my old (3.7) sitefinity website.
    I am not able to upgrade the sitefinity site to the new version at this moment. But would like to use some of the telerik text-boxes.

    Is there a way i can do that without breaking my sitefinity site?

    Hello,

     You will be able to use a newer version of the RadControls with Sitefinity 3.7 using binding redirect as mentioned, however there are lots of changes with RadControls in new versions that may introduced breaking changes with Sitefinity 3. For example the skins have been changed from Telerik.Web.UI to Telerik.Skins. Sitefinity is distributed with a certain version of the radControls (latest for the time of the current release) because the compatability have been tested. I don`t think you will have major problems that will hider the work process so I suggest doing a test project to check how will the project perform with the version you want to use.

    To use the newer version of RadControls use binding redirect:

    <runtime>
        <assemblyBinding xmlns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:asm.v1">
          <probing privatePath="bin;sitefinity\admin\bin" />
          <dependentAssembly>
            <assemblyIdentity
              name="Telerik.Web.UI"
              publicKeyToken="121fae78165ba3d4"
              culture="neutral" />
            <bindingRedirect
              oldVersion="2010.2.826.40"
              newVersion="2011.3.1115.40" />
          </dependentAssembly>
        </assemblyBinding>
      </runtime>

    Hi,

     This will replace the current version of the Telerik.Web.UI with the new version.

    What do i do about distribution?
    The old Telerik.Web.UI is preserved as we are only telling it to reference the new one when running the project.

    Also, how can i tell what version is currently included in my project?
    Go to bin folder of Sitefinity project right click Telerik.Web.UI and under Details tab the version is shown.

    I added the code to my config file.

    When i try to drag a NumericTextBox onto the page i get a warning saying:

    A File with the name '/bin/telerik.web.ui.dll' already exists. Do you want to replace it?

    I am not sure if i am supposed to say yes here.

    Hi,

     Yes replace the old version of the rad controls with the new one. You only need the new assembly when doing binding redirect. Click yes to the propmt dialog that asks you to replace the file.
