    Hi,

We are considering Sitefinity as a possible solution to a WCMS project we are working on.  I have heard a lot of good things about this platform but mostly from friends who deal with sites in the private sector.  Instead of going through a bunch of marketing and sales people, I though this would be a better audience to get some straight answers.

-This project is for a government site which requires dealing with compliancy issues such as section 508.
-Needs to have the ability to support content in English and Spanish.  Good multi-lingual content integration.
-If a customer is search the site, it needs to return content relevant to them (return spanish content when search with spanish keywords, not result in both languages).
-Is there a spell checker in Spanish?
-Typically the users pick a profile from a list on the site depending on which category they belong to and the site will bring content relevant to them.  So the search needs to return results from that profile, not just all data from site.
-We also have a large amount of pdfs, word and powerpoint files which needs to be stored and cataloged.  Ability of Sitefinity to have some kind of document management.
-Support for content on various mobile platforms.
-Support for sub-sites or multiple sites on the same platform.
-Have good statistics reporting and analytics tools.
-Load balancing or some kind of solution to deal with speed and data bottleneck issues.
-Active Directory integration or ability to integrate is required (how difficult is it).
-Some sort of Dashboard where content editors come in and it shows their tasks and duties.
-Good Workflow implementation such as ability to mark the status of content as approved or declined.  Should have ability to enter a reason as to why it was declined..etc.
-Ability to search text within documents.
-How difficult is it to implement other type of authentication methods (CAC...etc).

I have heard that Sitefinity is very well well documented and developer friendly.  I am curious if these requirements are achievable with the current version of Sitefinity or should we wait for 4.0 to come out.  And if so when is a release date?

    Thank you

    Hello Hafiz,

-This project is for a government site which requires dealing with compliancy issues such as section 508.

We are not complain against section 508. Only our HTML Editor covers requirements for 508 compliance
-Needs to have the ability to support content in English and Spanish.  Good multi-lingual content integration.

Sitefinity supports Localization, so you can create/copy existing content in many languages. The same applies for pages.

-If a customer is search the site, it needs to return content relevant to them (return spanish content when search with spanish keywords, not result in both languages).

We do not support this functionality out of the box. You need to extend the built-in Search provider and Search control.

-Is there a spell checker in Spanish?

There is a package of  languages that you can add to RadEditor control (HTML Editor that is used in Sitefinity)

-Typically the users pick a profile from a list on the site depending on which category they belong to and the site will bring content relevant to them.  So the search needs to return results from that profile, not just all data from site.

We do not support this functionality out of the box. You need to extend the built-in Search provider and Search control.

-We also have a large amount of pdfs, word and powerpoint files which needs to be stored and cataloged.  Ability of Sitefinity to have some kind of document management.

There is a module - Images and Docuements, but you cannot use this module to edit the actual content of a document.

-Support for content on various mobile platforms.

Sitefinity has not been tested and developed for mobile devices.

.-Support for sub-sites or multiple sites on the same platform

We support this functionality out of the box.

-Have good statistics reporting and analytics tools.

Statistics are implemented in Sitefinity 4.0. We have a custom Silverlight wrapper of Google Analytics. We do not have statistics in Sitefinity 3.x edition.

-Load balancing or some kind of solution to deal with speed and data bottleneck issues.

We support Load balancing. You should external third party tool to control the activities between your servers.

-Active Directory integration or ability to integrate is required (how difficult is it).

We support the standard implementation of Microsoft Active Directory. Sitefinity works as an acceptor of Active Directory ( using Sitefinity you cannot create, delete or edit users from Active Directory provider, you can only set permissions over the objects)

-Some sort of Dashboard where content editors come in and it shows their tasks and duties.

We have Dashboard out of the box. The Dashboard is based on user's preferences - "personalization"

-Good Workflow implementation such as ability to mark the status of content as approved or declined.  Should have ability to enter a reason as to why it was declined..etc.

Worklfow is supported in Sitefinity 3.x and 4.0 editions. Comments for the workflow steps are supported in Sitefinity 4.0, but if you are going to use Sitefinity 3.x you need to do some coding.

-Ability to search text within documents.

This is not supported out of the box, but it is easily achievable with external libraries like iTextSharper.

-How difficult is it to implement other type of authentication methods (CAC...etc).

This requires implementing a custom new membership and role providers.
