    In the release notes for SF3.7 SP1, there is a known issue called "Localization and additional providers are not supported" for the wiki module. In the other service packs, this issue is gone, yet there is not information about whether the wiki module actually supports other providers, or how to use them.

    Is it possible to get rid of the XML provider (and thus the Wikis.xml file) with SF3.7 SP4 and use the Sitefinity database instead?

    Thanks,
    Chris

    Hi Chris,

    We have not extended the module in the next SPs and there is not implementation for the features you would like to have.

    To implement a custom data provider you can inherit from Telerik.Cms.Engine.Data.DefaultProvide. The XML provider that we use can be replaced from the web.config  - <cmEngine> node.

    <add name="Wiki" urlRewriteFormat="[Wiki]/[Name].aspx" urlWhitespaceChar="_" visible="False" defaultMetaField="Name" securityProviderName="" allowVersioning="True" applicationName="/Wiki" versioningProviderName="" allowComments="true" commentsModeration="true" connectionStringName="GenericContentConnection" dataFile="~/App_Data/Wikis.xml" type="Telerik.Wiki.Data.XmlProvider, Telerik.Wiki.Data" />

    Just by looking at the complexity of the existing XML provider, I think that the work involved in creating a custom provider would far outweigh the benefits we could expect from using the wiki.

    Is this feature planned for any of the next service packs? Or at all for the 3.x branch?

    Thanks,
    Chris

    Hello Chris,

    There are no plans to change the provider for the module or extend some of the features.
