I plan on installing the Sitefinity CMS on a 1and1.com VPS package.   Is anyone aware of any issues or challenges with that setup?  Thanks in advance.

    Hello aurelio,

I suggest using discountasp.net services. They offer full trust mode and you will able to use all Sitefinity features.

    All the best,

I tried setting up sitefinity on a vps a while back, it was not a pleasant experience. the biggest problem was ram. I think I had setup with 512 MB of ram, the site would NOT run. it kept throwing out of memory exceptions, even when it was the only site running!

I think the biggest problem was that I had setup my sql server on the same machine. I was told this wouldn't be a problem but clearly it was! if you have a lot of ram it might be worth it, otherwise you might want a separate machine for your database...

so I would highly recommend you go with a trusted shared provider, or invest in a better spec'd machine

just my opinion, hope it was helpful!

Thanks Ivan.  Which package would you recommend from there?  What would be the starting point for basic setup and then I could take it from there.

    Hello Aurelio,

We will recommend the 200MB memory package with SQL 2008 and IIS7. It has a good price, and utilizes Full Trust already.
Don't hesitate to contact us if you have other questions.

    Sincerely yours,
    Georgi

1and1 VPSs support .NET 3.0, so you need to install .NET 3.5 SP1 if you intend to use the latest Sitefinity 3.6 .NET 3.5 build.  You'll also need to install SQL 2005/2008 Server Express if you don't want to use MSDE or MySQL.  Other than that I've set up two Sitefinity projects on the 1and1 VPS III package without issue related to the hosting (my third installation will begin in the next week or so).  The cited package offers 2GB of dedicated RAM, Full Trust, 50GB of disk space and 2TB of transport.  If you can't get your site up and running with these specs, you must be launching the new Google or something.

Now I wish I'd read this thread before! I've been trying to get Sitefinity running on a VPS with exactly the same problems as SelArom (out of memory). Again, I was told before I purchased the VPS that 512 MB of ram would be fine. Not a chance!
