During setup, I put 'admin' and a common password I use. I'm at the sitefinity/login.aspx page and it won't take it. Following http://www.sitefinity.com/sf3/troubleshooting.html#7, I reset the password format to 0 and entered my password in plain text in SQL. It also won't take this.

    Any ideas?

    Hello Chris,

What kind of error message you are getting (Your login attempt was not successful. Please try again)? Is there a JavaScript pop up or just the login page?

You could try to recreate the project and set new administrative details.

    1. Open your project web.config file.
    2. Find the following line:

    <cms defaultProvider="Sitefinity" pageExtension=".aspx" siteTemplate="" projectName="myproject" disabled="false" pageEditorUIMode="Overlay"

    3. Set disabled="true"
    4. You will be redirected to the Project Startup http://localhost/your_project_name/sitefinity/cmsstartup.aspx

    Hope this helps.

    Sincerely yours,

That did help trust the password more, Ivan. At one point, I was getting the red error 'your login was not successful'.

Now, on the 1st project and the 2nd one as well, I can enter the proper username and password and the page recycles back to an empty login form with no messages at all.

    Hi Chris,

I suggest that you should start from the very beginning following our Installation Guide. The installation has not started properly and you have made some changes to the database. I am not familiar with your particular settings, so I think that the better solution is a brand new installation.
Another thing you could check is too see if you have cookies enabled in your browser.

Do not hesitate to contact us if a new problems arise. We will be pleased to help you.

    All the best,

    Hi Dimitri,

I would like to suggest that you put this Disable="true" fact somewhere in your help files.  We have been looking all over for "How To Force Sitefinity into Startup" and nothing worked until I set Disable="true".

    Thanks!

I found this post while searching for a login issue that was exactly described as above. I discovered that I forgot to enable forms authentication in IIS7, and once I did I was able to log in successfully. Without that enabled, the login page would just refresh without any error.

Hopefully this may help someone down the line...
