hey all, tried to install the community edition for a friend's site, got the error message below. I tried to install it for another friend on another domain running on the same server and got the same message so I'm thinking it may be something that needs to be configured on the server... I think they'll (the host) help me get it done but I don't know what the problem is. can you help? thanks!

Silly question I am sure, but did you make sure that the file existed in the \bin directory?

lol yeah I suppose it should always be asked. I've definitely checked that file it was the first thing I did. I even downloaded it again in case mine was corrupted somehow...

the error doesn't quite to be that the file is missing, doesn't it usually say something else? here it sais it can't LOAD it, not that it can't FIND it...

    any ideas?

    thanks!

    Hello SelArom,

Is this website installed on a server on your local machine? If on a remote server, does it work on your local machine? I wasn't able to understand from your question if the problem is the Sitefinity itself or server on which it is hosted. Please provide us with much information as possible and we'll investigate it.

The issue itself has not been reported by anyone else nor can I reproduce it with the installation of Community version, so it's seems there is something unique about this case.

Thank you in advance for your effort and patience.

    Greetings,
    Ivan

thank you for your reply, it was working on my local machine before i uploaded to the remote server, so I'm almost certain it has to be a misconfiguration on the server somehow...

I'm pretty sure the host will help me get set up but I'm just wondering if there's any idea of what it might be so I can know where to start... but I'll just email them and see if they can figure it out...

    i'll report back, thanks!

well the host was unable to determine what the problem is. they said they would be happy to install whatever I need, if only you (sitefinity team) can identify what I am missing to get this working.

I'm going to erase everything, download the latest empty project and install it one more time and see if anything changes, but any ideas on what I might watch out for?

    thanks

    Hello SelArom,

I am guessing that your hosting service is running in medium trust environment, could you please set your local installation to medium trust (in web.config) and follow the instructions in the User Manual to get it working locally in medium trust.

Let us know how that goes. If you encounter any problems, please don't hesitate to ask additional questions.

    Best wishes,

thank you for continuing to follow up with me. the host says that I do indeed run on medium trust, but that they will do what they can to help me in giving my site the required permissions if I can explicitly tell them specifically what permissions are required. I'm not exactly sure what this means, except to say that they will help me set up what I need as long as I tell them what that is...

so can you give me a breakdown of what they would have to configure so that my site will run? or is this something that just can't be setup this way?

    thanks!

    Hello SelArom,

ok, we are making some progress :). When you are going to host your website in a medium trust environment, it is very convenient to run it in medium trust on your local machine as well, because you'll know right away what's working and what not. Sitefinity can run in medium trust, but there are certain settings that need to be configured in order to do that.

    This is my advice:
    1. On your local installation open web.config and in system.web section add this line:
    <trust level="Medium" />
This will insure that the website is running in medium trust, regardless is it on your local machine or remote server.

    2. Open the user manual and follow the instructions on page 254, section name "Medium Trust Support".

It is fortunate that your hosting provider is flexible, because you may need it afterall, but generally speaking you need to set up Sitefinity as per my instructions first (if they'd set up all the permissions you need, it wouldn't really be a medium trust anymore). Let me know how that goes and we can continue from there (or hopefully it will work and we won't have to continue).

Thank you for using Sitefinity and for your patience. We really appriciate it. Let us know if we can help you with anything else.

    Sincerely yours,
    Ivan

I have made changes to WAP asp.net programs and compiled and deployed in local machine (Win 7 enterprise and MS VS 2008) and it worked fine and add <trust

level="Medium" /> to system.web tag but when I deployed to IIS 6.0 prod server it fails ? do you know the reason ? Did any other developer have complained on

    this issue:
    Server Error in '/' Application.

Prod server is on a Win 2003 Server with IIS 6, where as development and testing happened on IIS 7.5 and Win 7 enterprise and it worked fine.

Currently we have ASP/ASP.NET 3.5 Intermediate - FULL TRUST. If we move to ASP/ASP.NET Intermediate - Server 2008, we can modify the .NET framework, the

Pipeline [Integrated or Classic] and the bitness. Would it solve my "Parser Error Message: Could not load type 'Telerik.Web.UI.DialogHandler'."

Do I need to look into GAC?, I cannot turn on fusion option to tack assembly dependencies?
