    Evening everyone,

We are getting close to launching out SiteFinity website. Yesterday i placed the site code in our Source Safe and had the other programmers ont he team pull it down onto their local machines to begin working on the project.

One is getting the following error:

Could not load file or assembly 'Nolics.Engine.v4.2, Version=4.2.2522.4, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=c50af72fde0670b7' or one of its dependencies. The module was expected to contain an assembly manifest.

I had him install the Nolics exe thinking maybe that was the issue - no luck there...

What is this error and why is he getting it? I have checked the project permissions and double checked all the project setting and they match mine as far as i can see...

Please could someone help me out, i really got to get these guys up and running... Thanks

    Duncan

I'd start by checking his bin folder for the website and making sure that Nolics.Engine.v4.2.dll exists. If the rest of your developers got latest and are working, it sounds to me like he might have a missing assembly. Perhaps there was a problem with that file when he was retrieving the project files.

If the assembly doesn't exist in his bin folder, copy the file from somewhere else and put it in there.

The Nolics.Engine.v4.2.dll doesn't have any other references besides those that come with the .NET framework, so it can't be missing references.

    Hi,

I found something interesting, which can apply to your case as well - http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vsdebug/thread/9ad17869-63cc-4529-bfaf-9099db500e0d/

I don't think that the assembly is missing, because it would result in an error containing a different string than : "The module was expected to contain an assembly manifest."

Let us know about the results though.

    Hi Georgi,

I happened to find the same post last night but am trying to avoid doing those work around unless i have to. I is quite possible that the BIN files are corrupted so we are redoing the download first... If that fails still what would you suggest i do next?

I'd probably bypass source safe (we all know what it's like, thankfully Microsoft released Team Foundation Server, yay!) and copy the files off another one of your developers machines who is working to see if that copy works on the machine having troubles. If it doesn't, it might be a problem specific to that machine trying to load that particular assembly.

Also, you could try copying the website from the bad machine onto a good one to see if the problem persists there as well.

Hopefully something just got corrupted when retrieving the files from your source control.

    Hey Jeff,

Well that goodness we managed to get past that error... Seems that the bin might have been corrupt and fgetting the files again resolved the issue...

    BUT!

Now we are getting another error on this machine...

    Method not found: 'Void System.Web.UI.ScriptManager.RegisterStartupScript(System.Web.UI.Page, System.Type, System.String, System.String, Boolean)'.

    Any ideas?
