    Hello Travas,

The error you get "Failed to generate a user instance..." doesn't look like a Sitefinity error. It may be caused because a previous install of SQL Express has left files. Or the problem might be with your SQL configuration.  Please take a look at these links:

    http://dotnettogo.com/blogs/
    http://forums.microsoft.com/msdn/showpost.aspx?postid=98346&siteid=1

    Pepi,

Thanks for the reply.  I read through all three articles and applied some of the suggestions. I messed with the SQL configuration, un-installed SQL Server Express and reinstalled SQL Server Express SP2. Still receive SQL error.

The "TIUSite_v3.2_SP2" actually gets created, but a sitfinity.log file gets created, I assuming at the point that it tries to access the Sitefinity.mdf...

Below is the content of the log...Would it have anything to do with "'Telerik.Cms.CmsWorkflowService'"?  Are there other alternative to viewing sample site to get a feel for using the application?

    Hi Travas Nolte,

Do you have other web applications, which are using SQL Express and are working fine? Also, check the name of your SQLExpress instance (by default it is SQLEXPRESS)? If the instance is different, you need to modify the connection string.

All forums seem to point to 3 possible resolutions:

    1. Known bug with Windows XP SP2 when using SQL via Remote Desktop.

    2. Delete C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server Data\SQLEXPRESS folder.

    3. Modify the SQL Server (SQLExpress) service to use your local or system account and restart the service.

If the information above does not help, I would suggest you install Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express and attach the TIU sample site database. Also, you should edit the connection string to point to the new database.

Do let us know how it goes.

    Hi Pepi,

This is the first time ever I am installing Sitefinity for myself and we're running into a lot of troubles.

We've been using Dot Net Nuke for some time now so we already have SQL Express we have installed and cannot delete due to the number of client projects we have on the machines.

Can you please let me know where I can find the TIU database?

    Many thanks,

    Hello James,

Here is a link to http://www.sitefinitywatch.com/blog.aspx where Gabe has demonstrated several ways of installation.

The database of TIU website should be created under TIUSite_v3.2_SP2/App_Data
