    Hi,

I've just installed SF 3.2 on my development computer, and when I attempt to launch the project manager, I instead get the following IIS 7 error message:

Server Error in Application "Default Web Site/telerik/Sitefinity3.2"

    HTTP Error 401.2 - Unauthorized

Description: You are not authorized to view this page due to invalid authentication headers.

    Error Code: 0x80070005

    Notification: AuthenticateRequest

    Module: IIS Web Core

    Requested URL: http://localhost:80/telerik/Sitefinity3.2

    Physical Path: C:\Program Files\telerik\Sitefinity3.2\ProjectManager

    Logon User: Not yet determined

    Logon Method: Not yet determined

    Handler: StaticFile

I have no idea what is causing this problem.  Any help in resolving it would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks,

    UIdev

    Hi UIdev,

First of all, thanks for your interest in our CMS and getting in touch with us. We are sorry to hear you are having troubles installing Sitefinity.
Did you configure IIS7 to run as IIS6 as described in the Sitefinity User Manual, section Installing Sitefinity under Windows® Vista. If you haven't, please pay special attention to step 6, at which you should expand World Wide Web Services, and then expand Security and select Windows Authentication.

Let us know if you need any further assistance.

    Kind regards,
    Rebecca

Well I think that must be what's wrong, seeing as it's not currently checked. Thanks for pointing it out - I guess I missed that step while reading through the setup guide!  However, when I go into "Turn Windows Features On/Off" and try to check "Windows Authentication", the program hangs for a long while and then comes up with the error message, "An error has occurred.  Not all of the features were successfully changed."  Do you have any idea why this is, and how to work around it?

I tried fixing the error as per the Microsoft KB, but I ran into the same trouble there!  After removing the ISAPI filter via Inetmgr, I went to Turn Windows Features On/Off.  However, the ASP.NET feature was still checked, which according to the KB article it shouldn't have been.  So I tried unchecking the ASP.NET checkbox and hitting ok, but I got the same error as before: "An error has occurred.  Not all of the features were successfully changed."

Thanks for any further guidance - I appreciate you helping me get through this!

    Hi UIdev,

Unfortunately, we don't think we can help you any further. We recommend that you uninstall the .Net framework and IIS and make a clean install.
If the problem persists, you can give us remote access to your machine and we'll do our best to solve this.

    Kind regards,
    Rebecca

Well after wrestling with this problem for exactly a month, I've just made Sitefinity work!  In the end I didn't have to do any reinstalls or anything.  In case other people have this problem, I'll list out a step-by-step solution (for Vista).

    1. Open IIS Manager via Start->Programs->Administrative Tools->IIS Manager.

    2. In the TreeView, find the telerik->Sitefinity3.2 site.  Click this to bring it up in the main content view.

    3. Double-click Authentication (under IIS)

    4. Enable Anonymous Authentication and ASP.NET Impersonation by clicking on each and hitting Enable from the Actions pane.

    5. If the website hasn't been moved to the Classic Application Pool, do so by opening command prompt as an Administrator and executing the command %systemroot%\system32\inetsrv\APPCMD.EXE set app "Default Web Site/telerik/Sitefinity3.2" /applicationPool:"Classic .NET AppPool"

That did it 100% for me and I've had no further problems.  I'm very glad to finally be up and running!

    Thank you

In IIS... Enable Anonymous Authentication did it for me.    Saved me days I'm sure.

Companies like Telerik and others need more test computers to verify their installations actually work.

    Thanks

    Thank god for forums

Its just a little confusint that the documentation (which seems otherwise very thorough) is so specific to Vista. There are tens, maybe hundreds of thousands of XP Pro boxes out there that aren't going away.

    Hello

    Les,
The reason for this is that Vista introduces many new security aspects which need some attention. The most important part of everything is IIS7 which is very different from IIS5.x and IIS6.x. We believe that Sitefinity installs fine on most XP machines. The most common problems are also described in our online Troubleshooting Section.

    Rick,
Let me first thank you for the suggestion. As you can see, the problem was caused by the server's configuration.
We at Telerik are always open for suggestions and constructive feedback. If you care to share your experience, we will greatly appreciate it.

    Regards,
    Georgi
