I am trying to determine how to configure Community Edition to work with the local MySQL server running on my dev machine.  Are there any KB's or tutorials that can help me?  I've looked at the setup docs for using SQL Server but so far that hasn't helped get me going with a MySQL based install.

    Thanks,
    Chris

    Hello Chris Douglass,

If you are using Sitefinity's Project manager, you will be prompted to enter your MySQl server name, username, password. You can use the IP of the local host - 127.0.0.1

Here is an example of the default connection string

    Server=myServerAddress;Database=myDataBase;Uid=myUsername;Pwd=myPassword

    So you should have Server = 127.0.01;Database=mySitefinityDataBase;Uid=your_username; Pwd=your_password;

    I hope this helps.

    Best wishes,

I solved this a cpl months ago but am trying to install a fresh copy of SF 3.6 using MySQL and am getting the following error:

There was an error trying to connect to the Database Server:
Access denied for user ''@'localhost' (using password: NO)

I can't recall what I had to do previously to get SF talking to MySQL.  Can you please send the steps again.  This is my environment:

    - new copy of SF 3.6 on a Win2k3 test server
    - the MySQL instance is running on a shared hosting system and is thus not on localhost
    - I created a new SF project using the Project Manager
    - I named the new project
    - It then prompts to Set Database before I start editing the new SF site
    - I receive the above error when I select MySQL

I'll look look around the web.config and see if I can find the connection string that's being used by SF.  But, it seems like this Project Startup page that is presented by SF should have just a few fields where we specify the host/port/password/username before it attempts to connect to a DB instance...

    Anyway, thanks again!

    Chris

    Hi Chris Douglass,

We found a problem related to installing Sitefinity 3.6 SP1 with MySQL database. I am sending you a path that you should apply to your project. There are two files in the package cmsstartup.aspx - replace the default page with this custom one. The other file StartupWizardFix should be added to your App_Code folder. After you have applied the fix the installation could take several minutes.

    Kind regards,

Hi, can you advise on the correct patch application process?  I copied these two files into my SF site directory (creating a new App_Code dir and copying the cmsstartup to the SF directory), and receive the following error:

    Configuration Error
Description: An error occurred during the processing of a configuration file required to service this request. Please review the specific error details below and modify your configuration file appropriately.

Parser Error Message: Could not load file or assembly 'Telerik.Framework' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.

    Source Error:

    Line 142:      </eventMappings>
    Line 143:      <providers>
    Line 144:        <add name="Simple Web Event Provider" type="Telerik.Utilities.TextFileWebEventProvider,Telerik.Framework" logFileName="~/App_Data/sitefinity.log" />
    Line 145:        <add name="Simple Web Buffered Event Provider" type="Telerik.Utilities.BufferedTextFileWebEventProvider,Telerik.Framework" bufferMode="Notification" logFileName="~/App_Data/sitefinity.log" />
    Line 146:        <add name="Code Benchmark Provider" type="Telerik.Utilities.CodeBenchmarkTextFileProvider,Telerik.Framework" enabled="False" logFileName="~/App_Data/performance.log" />

I recieve this error when I try click "Edit" from the Project Manager page for my new SF site.  The "telerik.framework" assembly must not be installed in my environment.  But, I downloaded the latest 3.6.1920 build for this new project.

    Thanks

    Hello Chris Douglass,

Could you check whether the assemble is in the bin folder and it is accessible by asp.net account.( this is what the error is for). If you do not use the Project Manager you probably get the same error.
The provided patch should not cause the problem you have. The patch is looking for the radio button control where you are setting MySQl, nothing else. The ascx file contains reference to the patch.
