    Hello Josh Fink,

Enable anonymous authentication in IIS. The prompt dialog expects username and password your windows credentials.

Added anonymous access to sitefinity itself I guess I missed it...  I get the following error now:

    Server Application Unavailable

The web application you are attempting to access on this web server is currently unavailable.  Please hit the "Refresh" button in your web browser to retry your request.

Administrator Note: An error message detailing the cause of this specific request failure can be found in the application event log of the web server. Please review this log entry to discover what caused this error to occur.

    Hi Josh Fink,

For the Project Manager of Sitefinity you only need to have ASP.NET impersonation and integrated Windows Authentication enabled. You do not need to enable other authentication types. Can you try to run only those two and see what the result would be.

For websites created with Sitefinity (after you have run the project manager to create them) you need Anonymous Authentication and Forms Authentication enabled. Other authentication options should be disabled.

    Hi Josh Fink,

Have you enabled ASP.NET Impersonation? Please check if this is the same in your Project Manager web.config(C:\Program Files\telerik\Sitefinity3.7\ProjectManager\web.config):
    <authentication mode="Windows" />
            <identity impersonate="true" />

Do you get any errors now? If yes send a screen shot of the error.

    All the best,

    Hello Josh Fink,

If you run the website in IE, login with administrator account before that, you will not get the credentials popup. Try using IE.

    Hi Josh Fink,

As we said before Anonymous Access is not required for the Sitefinity Project Manager. Make sure that you do not have IIS settings to deny specific users. Try logging in with the administrator account. Other than that there are no further settings that you have to do in order to run Sitefinity. Please, upload a screen shot of the error you are getting, image uploads are allowed in the forums.

    Sincerely yours,

I am in the same state as poor Josh. I have ensured that all the permissions are as suggested, edited the webconfig.ini and so many other security settings that I am worried I have opened my development machine up to attack,
    Here's my system:-

    Windows 7 Ultimate
    IIS 7.5
    SQL Server Express 2008
    .NET 3.5

    Here's my circumstances:-

Evaluating CMS solutions for deployment to a new financial web service, have DotNetNuke up and running but prefer the 'look and feel' of Sitefinity.
I managed earlier to get the TIUSite example to work by manually creating a virtual directory and converting it to an Application in IIS. This site was fully functional, but as soon as I tried to create my own site, after selecting a template I was told in no uncertain terms that :-

    Server Error in '/telerik/Sitefinity3.7' Application.

Access to the path 'TIUSite_v3.7_SP2' is denied.

Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.

Exception Details: System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path 'TIUSite_v3.7_SP2' is denied.

ASP.NET is not authorized to access the requested resource. Consider granting access rights to the resource to the ASP.NET request identity. ASP.NET has a base process identity (typically {MACHINE}\ASPNET on IIS 5 or Network Service on IIS 6) that is used if the application is not impersonating. If the application is impersonating via <identity impersonate="true"/>, the identity will be the anonymous user (typically IUSR_MACHINENAME) or the authenticated request user.

To grant ASP.NET access to a file, right-click the file in Explorer, choose "Properties" and select the Security tab. Click "Add" to add the appropriate user or group. Highlight the ASP.NET account, and check the boxes for the desired access.

    Hi Michael Hill,

ASP.NET Worker process does not have permissions over TIUSite_v3.7_SP2 - "Access to the path 'TIUSite_v3.7_SP2' is denied." Please grant read/write permissions over the folder.

    Hi Ivan,
Please excuse my ignorance, but what is the ASP.NET Worker process? I have granted read/write to IIS_USRs and IUSR which helped a little. The TIUSite unpacked but I can't access it to view or edit, and I am unable to create my own projects. They fail at creation with the following

Unable to create the virtual directory: Unknown name. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80020006 (DISP_E_UNKNOWNNAME))

Using IIS Manager I have used the Authentication Settings page to set the following for the telerik application.
    Anonymous Authentication Enabled,
    ASP.NET Impersonation Disabled,
    Forms Authentication Disabled,
    and Windows Authentication Enabled

    Hope this information helps

    Hi Michael Hill,

You can read more about the ASP.NET Worker Process in the MSDN library.

When you are running the project manager, since you have enabled Windows Authentication, make sure that you either run the Project Manager as administrator (run IE as admin and navigate to http://localhost/telerik/Sitefinity[version]) or run with an account which has permissions to create virtual directories. Please take a look at this post as it is useful to resolving the issue: http://www.sitefinitywatch.com/blog/09-04-21/Sitefinity_Project_Manager_Permission_Errors_in_IE8.aspx.
