We are going to use Sitefinity for a corporate intranet, using IIS7.  Currently the intranet is accessed using <servername>/<intranetname>, but ideally we want to just use <intranetname>.

For example, the <servername> might be MyServer, and the <intranetname> might be CorpIntranet.

    1. How do we set up IIS to do this, so that our users access the home page as http://CorpIntranet/Default.aspx?

    2. Assuming it is possible to do #1, what do we use to license Sitefinity as the top level domain name?  Will this work if in the future we move the intranet to a server with a different name?

    Hi RSewell,

You should create a separate website under IIS to access it directly after typing the protocol. The lincense key is valid and generated only for a single domain name/host.

Thanks, Ivan, but that was a pretty vague answer, and I'm too thick to understand it.

I have created a separate website under IIS, with the alias CorpIntranet, bound to an internally-routed IP address in the 192.168.xxx.xxx range.

I can only access the default.aspx page by typing the IP address into the browser, as in "http://192.168.1.65/default.aspx".  I want to access it via "http://CorpIntranet", and that's the name I want to use to generate my SF license key.

Unless I can resolve this issue, I won't risk my company's money buying a license, only to have it not work.  Will someone please guide me through this?

    Hi RSewell,

Setting IIS host and IP addresses are not controlled by Sitefinity. This is a server side configuration.

You have to create a new web site for the domain using the IIS Manager, and add the domain (somehost.) as a new host header value listening to the same IP address as specified in the DNS entry. Then set the port number - the default one is 80, but you could change it in case you have another website that is listening to on the same port. Add the host header and default application directory for the domain web site to the directory. Youd could add additional host headers for subdomains.

    Sincerely yours,
    Ivan Dimitrov

    Hi Ivan

We wish to do something similar
i.e. have the domain licence for http://corpIntranet

However, the licence generation requires a domain prefix (i.e. .com)
    Can this be done?

    Hello Markus,

Please contact our sales department directly for license related questions. They will generate a key for your intranet.

For the record, and for future inquiries by folks with the same problem, that is how I got our key.  Katya on the sales team generated it and sent it via email very quickly after I made Telerik aware of my problem.

My thanks to the Telerik team.
