    Greetings,

We are trying to get a Sitefinity installation setup on a custom server as a client's intranet site. The production server is a Windows 2008 with ASP.Net 4.0 and SQL Server 2005.

The issue we are having is that when editing a page the Sitefinity controls don't show, but rather display "Object reference not set to an instance of an object. I have attached a screenshot to demonstrate. Where this text is showing are areas where controls have been placed. Those same controls render on the presentation side of the site, just not in the admin.

Any assistance or insight into what is causing this issue is greatly appreciated.

    Regards,

    Jason

    Hello Jason,

It looks like you are running Sitefinity's build prepared for .NET 2.0 or .NET 3.5 against .NET 4.0 or some similar configuration. If you use .NET 4.0,  you should use the our build for .NET 4.0

    3.7.2136.240 - standard
    3.7.2136.340 - community

You might want to check your version following this KB.

    Hi Ivan,

You are correct I was using 3.7.2096.2 configured in IIS7 with a .Net 4.0 application pool. I am having a bugger of a time trying to get this application to run on the target production server. I have confirmed that .Net 2.0 and .Net 3.5 are installed, but when I setup the application pool to use .Net 2.0 I get 404 file not found responses back from any page requests. When I switch the application pool to .Net 4.0 the presentation side of the site renders fine, switch back to 2.0 I only see 404 requests for the same page. Requests to HTML pages respond accordingly in both configurations.

Do you have any insight you can provide as to what might be going on here. This should have been a fairly easy launch that now has my programmers as well as the client's IT team baffled.

    Thanks,

    Jason

    Hello Jason,

Usually 404 errors are thrown when there is no handler mapping for .aspx or there is some restriction.

    Kind regards,

I have the same scenario using 3.7.2096.2, .Net 4 on application pool in IIS hosted on Windows server 2012 R2 and getting "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" error on editing the page. If I change application pool to .net 2.0 then the site throws error "500 - internal server error". Is there any solution to this?
