We have 2 web servers connected to 1 SF database server.

We are planning to do the SP4 update but to prevent outage, we plan to keep primary server up which is running SP2 while I update fail over server first.

Will it be an issue that there will be 2 different versions SF connecting to the central SF database? Would any SP4 schema changes in SP4 cause errors on the SP2 server before I get to update it?

    Thank you

    Hi Jon,

This will be an issue for sure. You cannot have two or more project with different version connected to the same database. This will upgrade and downgrade the Sitefinity project and its database.

It would be better if you copy the website and its database to another location and make 301 redirect over entire host during the maintenance. Once you are done with the upgrade remove the redirect.

    All the best,

    Thanks.

If we need to fail back to SP2 for some reason, will I need to do a full DB restore or can it downgrade gracefully?

    Hi Jon,

You can downgrade, but it is always better if there is a database backup.
