    Hi everyone,

my development workstation is a Windows XP Home machine (with all updates / patches installed). Other than that I use Visual Studio 2008 Pro and SQL Server 2008 Standard.

I understand that for production purposes, Sitefinity only runs on a Windows XP Pro machine - but is it possible to do the development work on a Windows XP Home system?

I ask because I get an error 1001 when I try to install Sitefinity on my machine.

    Thanks

    Matt

    Hi Matt,

Thank you for posting your question.

We would recommend you to use the BlankProject approach. Login to your Client.Net account, choose the distribution that you want, and find the BlankProject zip file.

When you have it, just create a virtual directory (configured as application), and point it to the extracted files. Make sure that the Asp.Net worker process (usually yourcomputer\aspnet user account) has an access to the extracted files.

    This should get you started.

    Kind regards,
    Georgi

    Hi Georgi,

thanks for your super quick reply. My machine doesn't have an ASPNET account - I noticed that when I created the database. I used the "network service" account instead.

Is it possible that the reason for this is that I use "XP HOME" - which doesn't seem to ship with an IIS or an ASPNET account?

    Thanks

    Matt

    Hello Matt,

I suggest that you should take a look at the following article  - Installing IIS on Windows XP Home. The minimum requirement for Sitefinity regards IIS version is 5.1. The IIS 5.1 comes with XP Professional.
