    Hi there,

I have search the installation manual and the user guide for the sections explaining what extensions to setup in IIS for SiteFinity. I do remember seeing this somewhere in the past but can not find this information anymore.

I am working on my Dev machine, Windows XP, IIS 6...

In addition to this i have added a mapping with the following settings in IIS:

    Executable: C:windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\aspnet_isapi.dll
    Extension: .template

Before in SiteFinity admin i was not able to view the templates, i was getting a file not found iis error... Now i am getting the following error:

    The resource cannot be found.

Description: HTTP 404. The resource you are looking for (or one of its dependencies) could have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable.  Please review the following URL and make sure that it is spelled correctly.

    Requested URL: /CMSTest01/Sitefinity/Admin/~/Default.template

Can someone please tell me what extensions to setup in IIS and how to resolve this issue...

    Nugs

I have the same problem. I am trying out the community edition of sitefinity to see if it can perform for my client web sites. What I see is that the template file is coming from an Admin folder that has not been created within my site (MYSITENAME/Sitefinity/Admin/~/Default.template). I think that the abitlity to modify templates is supported in the Community Edition, but I'm not sure what happened that would have prevented the Admin folder from being created in my site directory.

this is not a restriction of community edition (i don't think so anyway, as i'm using it)

i had this problem as well and I never found the cause but this worked for me and it might be worth a shot. the master files are stored in the App_Master folder, so move those out and save them to say the desktop. then if they're still in the temlpate list, delete them. then re-add them again so they are uploaded by sitefinity to the app_master folder. if this worked, you can delete the copies on the desktop...

it worked once for me in the past so you might give it a shot. hope this was helpful!

    Hi SelArom,

Just to make a note that removing an template and then inserting again could cause troubles if there are pages that have used it. The reference to the template will be broken. If you have 5-10 pages you can recover them quickly, but if you have 500 or more this will be a problem.

Generally, this error is thrown when ISAPI mappings are not set, master page or its code behind are broken.

really? damn sorry I didn't realize that! especially since I don't recall encountering this problem. but then again this was early in my setup so I might just have forgotten. i know that my mappings were set, both in iis and web.config. permissions were also correct...

hope I didn't cause any trouble sorry about my bad information!

Do not worry, fortunately i am in test mode with all of this so now is the perfect time to solve this problem. Also SiteFinity seems fairly good about warning you how many pages will be effected when deleting a template.

That all said...... It did not solve my problem.

Thus far i have removed the template and re-uploaded it in SiteFinity. I have made 100% sure that i have the application extension for .template extensions executing aspnet_isapi.dll... (Am i maybe missing another extension that needs to be added here?)

In addition to all of this, the materpage/template i am testing with is the one shipped with the community addition... I have attached it here:

    1<%@ Master Language="C#" %>

    10<head runat="server"
    11    <title>Untitled Page</title>

    13</head>
    14<body>
    15    <form id="form1" runat="server"
    16        <asp:ScriptManager ID="ScriptManager1" runat="server"
    17        </asp:ScriptManager>
    18        <div id="wrapper"
    19        <div id="Header"
    20            <h1>My Organization</h1>
    21            <div id="TopNavigation"
    22                <asp:contentplaceholder id="TopMenu" runat="server"></asp:contentplaceholder>
    23            </div>
    24        </div>
    25        <div id="Main"><asp:contentplaceholder id="Content" runat="server"></asp:contentplaceholder></div
    26        <div id="SideBar"><asp:contentplaceholder id="SideBarContent" runat="server"></asp:contentplaceholder></div>
    27        <div id="Footer">2006-2007 &copy; MyOrganization. All rights reserved </div>
    28       </div>
    29   </form>
    30</body>
    31</html>

Nothing out of the ordinary as you can see....

What can i try next as this is holding me back from pulling my site layouts into SiteFinity...

    Thanks

I seem to be having the same issue as this post:

    http://www.sitefinity.com/support/forums/support-forum-thread/b1043S-bdtdac.aspx

although the pages of the site display fine... None of my pages have the same name as my templates and i have tried multiple templates and different names...

Is it time to reinstall SiteFinity?

I have figured out this issue after much searching the forums!

This behavior is cause by Oracle...
    http://www.sitefinity.com/support/forums/support-forum-thread/b1043S-bdaadd.aspx

Could i suggest adding this to the list of known issues and possibly preventing Oracle users from using uppercase page and template names or fixing the issue in some other way. I might also be a good idea to add this to the trouble shooting section of this site.

In my search for a answer on this the direction for the answer always seems to point to the Application Extension, when, although this may be the issue, there are also other causes.

    Thanks everyone,

    Nugs

Interesting side note: This is not the case with the pages of the site... I have named my pages Home and AboutUs etc...

In addition to this, even when the template was not able to be edited, the pages would still display with the template...

And this is not restricted to Oracle. I had the same issue and am using SQL2005. My solution was to delete the "Default" template, move the template from the App_Master directory as suggested by SelArom, and then import the template again and name it "default" instead of "Default". All is well, I am able to edit the template.

Seems interesting that this hasn't been caught during basic testing. I would also like to echo the recommendation that this be added as a list of known issues.

Thanks to all who provided input on this.

    Hi,

The issue with the characters case and Oracle is already fixed for the Sitefinity 3.5 release. It is already in your Client.Net accounts :)

    Best wishes,
