    I get this error

The account, you have authenticated with, has no permissions to create virtualdirectories. Please make sure that windows authentication is enabled.

I have read through this thread Here and still nothing

Very frustrating first experience with this piece of software.

    Anyone?

    Hello mystrymaster,

Check out the following Troubleshooting article http://www.sitefinity.com/sf3/troubleshooting.html#12. Optionally you could try running the project from BlankProject - thus virtual directory should be created manually. Here is another useful approach Installing Sitefinity from Blank Project through VS.

    I hope this helps.

I have checked all possible permissions and they are all set up the way they should be.

I have gotten the blank project and imported into VS and am building that way.

    Hello mystrymaster,

Thank you for getting back to me.

Let us know if you get stuck. The visual studio approach should work in anyway.

    Hello Ted,

I have not experienced problems with Vista. We officially support this OS. Try running it through VS as suggested in the previous post.

I am not sure I know how to do this.  I created a visual studio project in the websites folder and added a virtual directory to iis but it still won't show up in the Sitefinity project list.  how do I get it to appear in that list manually?

could it be because I am trying to install the community edition?  this is a website for a non profit organization I am a part of so I was trying to use this edition to keep the cost down.

Another question, when I run IE and enter http://localhost/telerik/Sitefinity3.6.Community it asks me to log in.  is this normal?  I log in as my vista username and password but I don't see this in the documentation anywhere.

    Hi Ted,

I am glad to hear that everything works fine.
Another question, when I run IE and enter http://localhost/telerik/Sitefinity3.6.Community it asks me to log in.  is this normal?

It is normal when you have anonymous authentication disabled. You have correctly used your windows account username and password.

    Sincerely yours,

I am having the same issue with Vista and IIS 7.0. I am using Vista Home Premium which doesn't have the option of windows authentication.

Do you know anyway round this?

    Hi Kieran,

The installer and blank project works on Vista Home editions although there is no option for windows authentication. enable anonymous, basic and forms authentication. If you cannot run the project in this way try using the suggestions in other posts.

This is an old thread I know.  I recently encountered issues similar to those described in this thread with IE 8.  I wrote the following blog post detailing my work-around:

    http://sitefinitywatch.com/blog/09-04-21/Sitefinity_Project_Manager_Permission_Errors_in_IE8.aspx

Also, I cannot stress enough to read & re-read the Sitefinity Installation Instructions (http://www.sitefinity.com/support/documentation.aspx).  I've been troubleshooting an issue for an hour only to discover I was missing one step (IIS Metabase setting).
