    Hello Dan,

The automatic upgrade of projects created with Sitefinity 3.0 directly to 3.2 is possible but, unfortunately, prone to many errors because the database and folder structure is now very different and there are a lot of changes made to the application web.config file since the release of v3.0.
We'd recommend upgrading your project to versions 3.0 SP2  and then 3.1 before you upgrade to v3.2.

    1. Back up your project and database.
    2. Install Sitefinity 3.0 SP2 and create a new project with it.
    3. Replace the project database with your 3.0 original project's database.
    4. Run the project. This will update the database automatically.
    5. Install Sitefinity 3.1 and create another new project.
    6. Replace the created database with your 3.0 project database. After doing this, the database is upgraded for use with Sitefinity 3.1.
    7. Install Sitefinity 3.2 and follow the upgrade steps described in section Upgrading Projects to Sitefinity 3.2 of the User Manual.

is there no way of taking my project created in 3.0 and copy it directly into the 3.2 directory? any other tips on how to upgrade my 3.0 project ? rather than going through all the release installs? appreciate it. thanks

    Hello Dan,

Unfortunately, this is the only way to reach 3.2SP1. We have made many changes to the database structure and the CMS as a whole since version 3.0. Each version is performing an update of your database. We know this is rather uncomfortable and are trying to make the upgrade procedure simpler in our future releases.

Don't hesitate to contact us if you experience any problem during the upgrades. We will be glad to assist you.

    Kind regards,
    Georgi
