I just downloaded SiteFinity for the first time and installed it on my local machine. When I tried to launch it (through the start menu) I was prompted for a username/password. Is there a default initial username/password I should know about? I couldn't find one in the manual. I tried admin/admin and my username/password to this site, neither of which worked. Please help!

    Thanks!

    Hello aggiekevin,

Could you please try the following in the machine where Sitefinity is installed, to ensure that there is no problem with your account:
Create a new account in your operating system, set its password and add it to the administrators group. Then, run the ProjectManager (http://localhost/telerik/Sitefinity3.1 , or as you did before, via the Start Menu) and when the windows authentication alert pops up, enter the username and password of the account you have created.

Please let us know how it goes and if you still have problems, send us screenshots of the errors you get.

    All the best,
    Georgi

    Hello Ian,

Every user whose password is not "blank" in Windows workstation can log in the Sitefinity Project Manager. If this user doesn't have permissions for creating virtual directories in IIS, s/he will not be able to create a new project, but only use a project already created.
    Therefore, your possibilities are :
    • Try to login with a standard user who has a password set and try to create a project. If this works, your user will be able to use Sitefinity but will not be an administrator of the workstation.
    • If you are unable to create a project with a standard user, login with administrator and create a new project. Then you can login with the standard user and administer this project, but you should be not able to create new project.
Note that the pop-up box you see is asking for permission to work with IIS in Windows, not with Sitefinity. When you create projects in Sitefinity, you create users who can work with this project.

In order to to help you further, please attach screenshots of any errors that you might get or provide us with the steps needed to reproduce this behavior. Don't hesitate to contact us again if you need us to assist you with something else.

    Kind regards,
    Georgi

Thanks for the reply. I guess I was a bit confused about the role of the project manager vs the site specific CMS instance.
