I read this article by Gabe Sumner and decided to add Captcha to my Admin login page.

The site is hosted by SeekDotNet and is built on Sitefinity 3.7 community edition.

Following the article, I added a reference to the telerik DLL at the top of the page, and added the markup for the catcha control.

Navigating to the page, however, just generates a runtime error. Removing the markup for the control (but leaving in the reference to the DLL) allow me access to the page.

This leads me to believe that, maybe, the version of the DLL is old enough not to have the captcha control built in.

Short of waiting for the support bods at the hosting Co to tell me, how can I, using only the tools available in sitefinity, can I tell what version of telerik I have access to?

    Hello Stuart,

Inside the bin folder you should have Telerik.Web.UI dll, so you can check its version from the file properties.
If the RadCaptch is not part of your Telerik.Web.UI.dll, you can upgrade  the project to a newer version - the last one is Sitefinity 3.7 SP4.

    Stupid, isn't it?

I mean, I know this. But because I'm not in control of the site (ie, it's hosted by some one else) I simply assumed that the DLL wouldn't be accessible; I never even looked!

But, of course, the site has a bin directory and the directory has the telerik DLL in it!

And, yes, it is old; Q1 2010.

    <fx>Time passes...</fx>
Hmm. That version does have RadCaptcha though.

    More investigations, I think.

    Ivan

    Thanks for that.

It appears that SeekDotNet are using SP3. However, the version of the RadControls is 2010 Q1, which /does/ have the RadCaptcha control. So I'm at a bit of a loss to explain why I can't use Gabe Sumner's code.

    Hello Stuart,

Try creating the control from the server - inside Page_Load. It looks like you are missing some reference to Telerik.Web.UI.

I've decided to wait 'til 4.0 comes out; I've already started converting my site.
