    I have been really suffering through Sitefinity upgrades, which is a topic i have already posted in here.  However one other thing that I think would really help.  We should be able to download each version of sitefinity - BIN, Sitefinity folder, web.config, rad controls, etc - without using any kind of installer.  The installer takes a long time to run and overwrites previous installs of the same version.

    Furthermore, these should be available for each version in the download areas of the site.   I should be able to download just the core sitefinity files as a ZIP for 3.0, 3.0 sp1, 3.0sp2, 3.1 etc.  Currently this is available for some versions but not for others.  Having these available for downloads would really help with the upgrade process.

    I have to say that after working with Sitefinity for 2 years, the upgrade procedure has really left a bad taste in my mouth and made me question whether I will recommend Sitefinity to future clients.

    Hello fregas baratis,

    Actually, such Sitefinity core files (hot-fix or patch) have been available for download since version 3.0 SP1 from your Client.NET, section Downloads. They are provided only for service packs. As for upgrading from old version to the new one, i.e. from 3.0 to 3.1, the patch is not appropriate because some web configuration changes cannot be handled without human intervention, so for most users this patch is not helpful and will cause problems. To upgrade from 3.0 to 3.1 or from 3.1 to 3.2, we recommend the following scenario:

    - install the new version of Sitefinity;

    - create a new project;

    - copy the files from the old project to the new one without replacing the existing files;

    - apply your changes in the new web.config manually;

    - start your new project to connect to the old project database.

    The steps above are described both in the Installation Guide and the User Manual, section Upgrading projects to Sitefinity 3.2.
    As for installing Sitefinity 3.2, you don’t need to uninstall v3.1. Also, we made some improvements to the Sitefinity 3.2 setup, so install/uninstall time is less than 2 minutes now. We are working on improving the upgrading process to make it better in the future.

    Let us know if there is anything else you would like to know about Sitefinity.

    All the best,
    the Telerik team
