I don't know if this has been mentioned before but it seems file download is not available from the file manager. This feature would keep end users from having to use FTP or the GC Editor to get files off of the server.

    Sincerely,

    Ben

    Hello bnye,

IThis would certainly be a very helpful addition to Sitefinity. We will consider adding this feature to one of our future releases.  Thanks for the suggestion.

Any news if this feature will be included for the upcoming release? Or 4.0 perhaps? It's one of my major concerns atm.

    Hi again!

I was looking forward to this feature in the new release but so far I'm not having much luck downloading anything from the file manager. :) Any updates in this matter?

    Hello Andreas,

Please excuse us for failing to provide this feature for the official release. We will make sure it is added in the upcoming Service Pack 2 (scheduled for May).

Once again, please accept our sincere apologies.

    Sincerely yours,
    Sonya

    Hello,

Sorry if I reopen this old post but I can't find the "download file" feature in the file manager.
In another post I read it was released in the 3.2 SP2 version.

Even in the 3.5 user manual doesn't appear in any place

Is this feature not available or I'm looking in the wrong place?

    Thanks

    Jorge

    Hi Jorge,

Unfortunately option for downloading items is not available out of the box.

    Kind regards,

So when will this be implemented...I believe this would be a beneficial feature. Being able to do everything in the file manager is nice, but i just want to download a file. any hints on how to do it?

    Hi antixian,

We have implemented this recently. Please check this KB article - http://www.sitefinity.com/support/kb/sitefinity-3-x/how-to-enable-file-download-in-the-file-manager.aspx

    Hope this helps!

that's great! thanks for the reply.

for those files that are restricted or not able to download via http request...i have been copying those to the root and renaming them with .zip at the end and downloading using that url directly to the renamed files. then i just take the .zip extension off and i'm back in action with the original.

    thanks again.

also i've done this on a few sites before (mostly contest sites where people upoload files)...well for the judges it's a real hassle to manually download all the files the user uploads. so to help them i created a link that generates a string of all their files and then uses the ZipOutputStream to create a zip file and put them all inside of it. similar to how you have the admin > tools > export option i suppose. but that'd be nice to check off files in the file manager and create a zip on a public area to download them all at once.

I agree, this will be a nice feature to have. I am logging it now. By the way, if you care to share your controls in our Code Library, we will appreciate it!
