Fixing critical bugs

    Hi,

    One thing that is getting a bit out of hand for us is the length of time between Service Packs and the number of custom "workarounds" we have made to classic Sitefinity issues like the RegisterRequiresControlState Error for instance.

    This means we now have to keep track of these workarounds and the custom code that has been implemented to remedy them and remove them should the next service pack fix the issue.

    I can't help but wonder whether the Sitefinity team should release officially supported "hotfixes" between Service Packs to sort out  critical bugs like the RegisterRequiresControlState Error in order to keep the fixes to these issues a little tidier for us all.

    Some issues we can wait for service packs but others are more critical and I think some consideration needs to be made for such an avenue.

    By the way, your team is always excellent at responding to critical bugs that is not the issue here for Telerik support is most often second to none - it is just the unofficial way of remedying them between service packs that concerns us.

    Your thoughts?

    We have considered the practice of releasing officially supported hotfixes.

    When discussing the option, however, we asked ourselves: shall we concentrate on fixing, testing, and releasing a hotfix or shall we rather spend this time on fixing even more bugs and shortening the time to the next Service Pack. Usually, we selected option 2. 

    However, we realize the need for fast solutions to problems and the ability to track them better. That is why we have started working on a Public Tracking System where clients will be able to post bugs reports and track their progress over time. We believe that this can help you with the tracking and upgrade of fixes.

    We have also started a process reorganization to help us shorten the time periods between releases. What we are planning to do in the future is have more beta releases available for public download. We hope this will help improve the situation.
