We've been using Sitefinity for a while now, and everytime we have to deploy it we have troubles ensuring the search indexes folder has the proper permissions for the account the app pool is using. The internet accessible server we have is extremely locked down, and as such we cannot give the account full rights to the entire folder.

When we reindex the site on our internal Sitefinity server and the outer server notices it, the search mechanism will continue to crash until we can contact our internal support group to get the index file updated on the outer network server.

Storing the information in a database would alleviate the headaches associated with this piece of the system and make it a lot easier to handle deployments and site indexing.

    Hi Jeff,

We use Lucene search engine which generates specific segment files that cannot be stored in the database. We will consider possible solution for Sitefinity 4.0.
