    Hi
One of our client is insisting on having separate staging and live servers.

This is what they want me to do:

    a. I develop the site on a development environment.

    b. I then deploy the site on a test/staging server.

    c. When the client is happy with the site - they should be able to publish it to the live server.
Currently I have said they will need to backup the database on test server and restore it on live server. Client is not happy with this solution.
Do other CMS do it differently ? Can there be any other solution ?

    Hi Rajeev,

Currently the only solution is to backup and restore the database on the live server. We have plans to implement a site synchronization module but this is not scheduled yet.

    Kind regards,

    Hi
So maybe the solution for me could be to use some 3rd party database synchronisation software ?
Do you foresee any issues with that ?

    Hi Rajeev,

If you are using SQL Server, you can use the build-in replication services. It should work without problem in theory but we haven’t tested that yet.

If you try this solution, we will highly appreciate your feedback on this initiative.

    Kind regards,

Has this solution been developed and released yet?  I sure could use it!

    Hello Leon Williams,

We will have replication functionality in Sitefinity 4.0 which will be released by the end of the year.
