Hello John,
First of all, thank you very much for sharing your opinion with us. We are really glad to hear that regardless of its flaws, Sitefinity is still a product that you are willing to stay with ll stay with our product, and that you are willing to help us improve it.
You are absolutely right that as far as user activity is concerned we have failed to properly communicate a more explicit direction for Sitefinity. There are a number of reasons why we deliberately decided not to invest efforts into the development of a Sitefinity community right of the bat. We believed that a better way for communication should be through the dedicated support channels as we needed to establish close relationships with our clients who were the first put their trust with our vision and undertaking. For example, customers like Ryland Homes and Farm Credit Service of America have aggressively pushed the envelope with respect to the product’s capabilities which helped us tremendously in shaping up a product that will not only appeal to the very developer but to the large enterprise end-user. The product has been heavily influenced by that same feedback alongside our own R&D as we wanted to make sure that we provide a solid WCMS foundation which will gain a greater appeal to the general public once we start to actively market the product and bolster a community around it for its future evolution. In fact, we have found this approach to be particularly successful based on our past experiences as we were able to create a vital community around our ASP.NET product line at
www.telerik.com/forums.
The good news for all customers is that over the last few months we have made significant progress in our product overhaul and many things should change with the upcoming v3.0. We now have a great team of engineers responsible for a fabulous product underway. There are also plans to re-design
www.sitefinity.com and add a lot of great content. And yes, we do have the ambition to create a supportive community since we are true believers that the community is an integral part of any product‘s success.
Once again, we want to sincerely thank you for your involvement and eagerly expect further feedback from you.
