  Hi,
  I've just started using SiteFinity (3 weeks now), and to me it looks like something I can use. But, as a novice I often look around for tips & tricks on how to use a product. There is a forum on this site, but there is very little activity.
  
  A lot of activity is always a good sign, I reckon. Because it shows that the product is being used. But not so here on this site, and it worries me a bit :-).
  Is that because SiteFinity hardly (if ever) has been advertised anywhere, and people don't know about it? Perhaps it has been tried, but not found likable...
  
  I'd also would like to see more information from the Telerik folks here about what is happening. A Knowledge Base for SiteFinity....

  Thank you for being our customer and for you interest in Sitefinity. I will try to address your concerns and explain things a little.
  
  I see that you have been with telerik for several months now. This leads me to believe that you are aware of http://www.telerik.com/'s forums and the activity there (we have over new posts per day there). In truth, most Sitefinity clients (as well as MCMS and SharePoint holders who use our products) prefer to use www.telerik.com to ask their questions about telerik controls, rather than to use the respective site to do so. In my opinion, there are a couple of reasons behind this:

  1. Most Sitefinity clients also have a license for r.a.d.controls. These clients are familiar with telerik's products and they realize that most questions they have are not related to the Sitefinity platform itself, but rather to the particular control (menu, editor, etc) and/or their custom needs. As you know, Sitefinity does come with all telerik controls so using the www.telerik.com's forum is pretty much the same as using the forums on www.sitefinity.com, www.mcmscontrols.com or www.sharepointcontrols.com. It is not that we don't have Sitefinity customers, rather that they prefer to use the alternative forums. To our regret, this leads to lower forum activity on www.sitefinity.com.
  2. Our clients prefer to use telerik.com as they think that, for some reason, their question(s) will be answered faster. Well, this is not entirely true, as all Forum posts, regardless of their origin, are reviewed by the support team and are assigned to the appropriate team.
  3. The third reason is that you get guaranteed response time of 24-48 hours when using the support system, whereas the response times in the Forums are set to 72 hours. In turn, the support system is used much more than the Forums.

  I hope this information helps.
  
  As to the marketing of the product: although several noteworthy blue chip companies own licenses of Sitefinity (among the many small development shops), we are not pushing the product as seriously as we would really like. This is mostly because several significant events occurred in the last 6 months, namely the release of .NET2 and the reaction to and adoption of AJAX and ATLAS. These two technologies changed our plans drastically and we had to lay aside Sitefinity for a little while and focus on providing support for the latest hype. TechEd in Boston next week will be the first rather major step in going back to our plans, where we plan to actively promote Sitefinity. Later on, you will see more advertisement and coverage, as well as a set strategy to strengthen and develop the Sitefinity community.

  Thanks Rob for a thorough answer,
  I have used the forums at www.telerik.com, but as you mentioned this is more for r.a.d. controls support and not for SiteFinity support.
  I have had a couple of support tickets here (at www.sitefinity.com), and the answers have been very helpful. So I can't complain about that :-)
  
  Looking forward to hear and see more of SiteFinity.
